Anyone w/ a Clown Tang

I would love to see pics of a clown tang thriving in your system.

Please let me know how long it has been in your care, and size of tank as well.

I have always wanted one of these, but never had any luck with them...
Would like to believe that someone is doing well with these gorgeous fish

Could you tell me of your past experiences? I also want one and plan to add it as one of the last fish but that may never happen. Survival rates are poor but can't be harder than the Regal Angel.

I kept one about 8 years ago when I still had my 125g reef. I got him from a store that is known for having top notch fish. I made sure he was eating before I took him home and acclimated him very slowly. I also made sure he had no competition for food by other fish. He ate like a pig and a quickly became the king of the tank. Once he was established he got quite aggressive towards any larger fish. I kept him with clowns, a goby, and a blue hippo tang for about 2 years before I took a break from the hobby. HTH

I bought the XXL one from Diver's Den a couple of weeks ago. It is a little over 8" and doing really well so far. He ate the first day for me after shipping and all. I have mine in an 11 foot tank with 45x turnover. I have mine with an equal sized sohal tang. So far no quarrels at all between the two.

Strangely enough... I've had better experiences with the Regal Angel (indo) twice...
I have tried on three occasions to get a CT to feed with no luck...
I admit that the few LFS that I've purchased them from were not the most reputable...
I am restarting my 240ga (took a over a year's break to devote to family and financial issues) and very much like to include the CT as my final addition.
So, for inspiration, if anyone a Clown Tang eating like a fat pig, I'd like to see a pic them! :inlove:

I have a clown tang in my 700gal system. Around 4.5 inches and has only really shown aggression to my Tennenti Tang (although now subsided).

I have one. I can't get a good picture because it never stays in the same place. He wasn't eating at the store but finally accepted nori soaked in garlic after a couple weeks of pecking at the algae in my tank. A few months later he started eating frozen food with the rest of my fish. The tank has two koralia 7 powerheads and a sump with high turnover. He hasn't shown much aggression except towards my Bellus angels the day that they were introduced. I don't have any other tangs in the tank.

I think we have 6 or 7 in our big big tank. IME they are not any harder than other touchy Acanthurus like Achilles or Japonicus, but they are very very aggressive. Sometimes to the point of wearing themselves out, chasing tangs that are twice their size. If they're small and already thin, and they're spending all their energy chasing stuff around they could easily get starved/malnourished. All the rules of tangs apply, they are susceptible to Cryptocaryon and fluke infestations, so select carefully and QT.

One of my favorites, had one until a power outage killed all my fish.....was one of the ones lost that bummed me the most.....

They are known to be a tad bit on the "difficult" side as Tangs go, and they sometimes do take a while to eat....so its very important....so try to buy in person and local to minimize stress even more.

My tank is 180g two sided(rocks in middle) 6ft long.
Bought the smallest clown tang I could find in Sept.2004(app 3").
Quarantine for 4 weeks.18 days with copper.
Tankmates:2 yellow tangs,1 sailfin tang,2 maroon clowns,1 Alens damsel.
So it's going on 6 years now ,tankmates have been the same all that time.Did loose a spotted mandarin to some kind of fungus(?)
Of the 4 tangs ,he is the most dominant but least aggressive. He gets his way but never really chases any of the other fish.
A big swimmer.Needs lots of space.Uses the whole tank.
Eats everything.I feed finely chopped fish from the market, flakes and caulerpa & chaeto from my fuge.
