Ok I was browsing the net tonight (as usual) and just got to drooling over some really nice zoas : Chong Bongs, AOI's, Strawberry Wines, Speckled RPE ...etc so I thought I would gauge interest for some others who may be interested on cutting down shipping costs

Sorry to butt in, and I know it can be done, but trying to start a colony from two (or even three) polyps is pretty dang difficult. If they didn't do a good glue-job or the rock underneath is cracked and ready to break, it's even tougher. I would think carefully, mainly because those things ain't cheap. Beautiful, yes, but definitely not cheap!

Just my $0.02.

Ah yes... 20k lights plus photoshopping and a made-up funky name makes any zoanthid look rare. :) Caveat emptor.

I have seen most of those varieties in person (owned most of them at one point, when I referred to them by fancy names like "the pink ones") and they aren't as impressive as those pictures are. A couple are not even zoanthids, they are palythoa.

I suggest shopping at the Chattanooga Frag Swap first before going online. WYSIWYG is the best way to shop. And often much cheaper as well as getting larger frags.

I collected a number of the same zoanthids and palythoas that are offered on that sight through local/regional swaps. Chattanooga swap that Nicole mentioned is a real good place to start. You might consider posting in MTRC and ETRC's forum to see if anyone is doing a presale of rare zoanthids.

As for starting a colony from two polyps, it's quite doable with some fast growers such as Nuclear Green, Armor of God, and Purple Death. Cany Apples Pink and Green are also fast growers for me. Within a year, I managed to get sizable colonies of all of them.

Prices are coming down some, too. Check out Chattanooga frag swap this August as a starter. Then Nashville one in January. There may be another one in-between if we are lucky.

I would but want to wait and see what i can find at the frag swap at a much better price. After the FS i would go in with you

I will be checking the frag swap first but I have been to the last 2 frag swaps and paid the same prices as the ones online...minus the shipping of course. (which is the reason why I posted this thread) And at the MTRC and ETRC swaps combined I only found 3 or 4 I would call rare. I understand your concern with them being photoshopped and I have heard that by many since I started 2 years ago but fortunately so far I havent had a problem with that. I have always gotten the same color if not better when I received them. And thats with me using PC's and now T-5's. I do agree that WYSIWYG is the best way to go but it has been difficult to find what Im looking for. I have seen results from people who have bought from these guys and they have never had a problem so I feel good if anyone is interested.

I will be going to the Chattanooga swap so I wouldnt want to try and purchase until after then so I am still just trying to gauge interest

I don't know who you got your frags from at the swap, but I find exoticfrags' prices way too higher than the prices I paid at Chattanooga swap last year. A few members of MTRC and ETRC do have a lot of those on exoticfrags. You need to keep an eye on "presales" or PM a few likely sources.

Im not sure if this is high or not but I paid $30 for a milky way, $30 for a PPE, $20 for a mohawk, $15 for a lunar and a joker paly. I got them from several regulars from ETRC and MTRC

Id say you do okay those are not bad prices. When you get a few extras. Id be interrested in a milky way and a joker
