Apex Android App

How can I turn on or off something from the app? I change the status of my lights from auto to manual off and activate and nothing happens. I also try to reload but it goes back to auto.

Any thoughts?

I have a Samsung Facsinate and neither the old version of the app, nor the just released update will allow me to change anything. I can easily read status, but changing states simply doesn't work. My daily graphs also appear to go back to the beginning of my logs as opposed to just showing a day's worth.
 
Based on your sig, it looks like you're using and HTC EVO.. You should not be having any problems. I remember a while back, when I switched over to Android, I had a problem that I thought was with the App. It was because I was using special characters in the outlet names... Not sure if they fixed this or not, but as soon as I removed the special characters, it worked fine.
 
See other thread on android app, there were some recent severe problems which hopefully have just been resolved. 1.9.7 should be in the market.

Scott turn the WI-FI on your phone on and give that a try.
I was just settin here messin with my facsinate
and figured it out.
it takes a few second for it to respond to the outlet changes so be patient.

No joy. Wifi or not, it just stays read-only. Thanks for the tip though.

Cool. I had a hunch... Here's my theory:

Since you are on Reeftronics, I was able to tell that your have the Open XML Access option enabled. Open XML permits access to status data anonymously (without authentication). So, the app was able to retrieve status.xml without needing to authenticate using the (apparently incorrect) username/password. But when the app attempted to update outlet state, an operation which does require authentication, that operation failed, but the app didn't display any form of error message.

Actually, it wasn't even incorrect. I had intentionally left it our when I configured it initially as not to over expose the password. I just never connected the dots and went back to configure it. It seemed to me (wrongly) that if I could read, then I should be able to write.

Hopefully Henry can throw in a bad password error message in a future release.

I just tested; the iPhone/iPad app behaves in exactly the same way when incorrect (or no) credentials are input. Looks like both apps could use a bit of tweaking to better validate the settings before they are saved.
 
Ok I have an htc evo and I keep getting an http error when I try to open this app...what is going on any help please
 
Can you get to your controller from the regular browser on your phone?

If you can't get to it from the browser we need to solve that problem first.
 
Not trying to hijack this thread but aren't you guys a bit concerned with the security hole that can potentially compromise your entire functionality of your controller that controls for most devices that are sensitive to your reefs survival? I would not expose my tanks life system via the Internet until Apex fixed some of what I call security vulnerability on there remote web interface. If I can pull data without logging in I can potentially compromise your web interface and perform unwanted functions to your controller.

Again my .02 cents on security.
I would protect the web interface behind a firewall with strict acl's or VPN access to the web UI till things were fixed correctly .

I agree this risk could exist.. But no one cares about me enough to take the time to hack my aquarium just to be mean... Most hackers are out more for there own gain rather than your pain.

I disagree with your thought, yesterday's hackers were in for personal gain meaning theft of some kind but most hacks today are mostly to see what can be discover or the challenge of compromising a system . It's not what you have it's what they can access. In other terms a challenge,

No I have not personally validated the vulnerability but I will say that most web accessible devices like the Apex they were not designed to be a security device but strictly provide a service. If I had one of these I suppose I could spend the time and to figure out how to compromise it.
All I'm saying is if it's got a GUI front end and the ability to made backend calls without user credentials then the risk I there

Ok I have down loaded the apex....put my widget in and when I go to open the widget it gives me an http error....so no I am not able to get in the controller at all
