Solenoid is a an electrical coil that moves an actuator to control something. Like a valve for instance.

The Jr is a bad investment. That was my first controller because I thought i didnt really need one. The limited module capacity was a problem as started buying more controller components. Neptune is coming out with some cool stuff. I doubt they will "carry on" the old unit with these new announcements(alk monitors...etc).

I think your right. At some point they won't be able to support all the different units and be cost effective. That was one of the reasons I bought the new 2016 version even though I wasn't too keen on the new carrying case.
