Apex Clock Battery - mine has never worked - question

I've had my APEX for a little while now. Whenever the power goes out, the date jumps to December something, 2008, around midnight.

I just always figured the apex didn't have a clock battery, but recently read in the unofficial user guide that it definitely does. Was or am I supposed to do something to activate the battery? Did I miss something on the install or did I get a bad battery? Can I replace the battery?

There was an issue early in the introduction of the Apex with bad batteries. It is not user servicable. Contact Neptune support@neptunesys.com. However, if you have not upgraded the firmware since you bought it, there was a feature added so that the Apex would sync with a time server via the internet. You could also use a small UPS and 12VDC adapter to provide backup power, this would not only avoid the clock issue but maintain limited functionality of the Apex during a power outage.
