Apex Email Setup

I posted this on Dfwmas but no solutions as of yet.

I got the Apex all hooked up last night. Successfully connected it to my network and was able to port forward to control it from my pc as well as my iphone/ipad. All I have left to do is get the gaming adapter installed and I should be good to go on the installation. Only trouble I ran into was the email setup. I have read posts, apex manual and the unofficial apex manual and nothing still seems to work. Here are my settings, please post up if you have any other advice.

Apex hooked directly to Uverse Router changed port to something other than 80 so there is no conflict. I tried all combinations of the server and port listed below. the firmware version on my apex is 4.11

Email enable: enabled
SMTP Server: mail.gmx.com (also tried smtp.gmx.com)
SMTP port: 587 (also tried 25 and 465 which was recommended on one of the internet searches i did)
From: myusername@gmx.com
To: myusername@gmail.com
Alt: myphonenumber@txt.att.net
Re-email delay: 60
Time zone: (this was not an option on my screen, assuming they did away with it in a newer firmware version)
Email Authentication: Enabled
User name: myusername@gmx.com
Password: my GMX password

I forgot to add, when I telnet in and add the 3 commands according to the manuals, I get "mail.gmx.com unk server". This is probably the issue but I don't know why it won't work if others are using gmx mail as well.

At first blush, it would appear that you do not have your DNS server correctly configured. On your Network setup page, verify that your primary and secondary DNS servers are configured correctly. If your Uverse router proxies DNS, then those entries would be the same as your router address. If it does not, then they should be addresses provided by your ISP.

Okay I'll check that, in fact it was on my list of possible problems after I reread all the documentation I have.

Any ideas on where I find that info for my uverse router? I'm not very good at networking!

gmx mail does not work with the APEX Try getting a a Yahoo or MSN email account then you can have that fowarded to your gmx account.

Completely false...GMX works great with the Apex....

Cyphoma Im local as well (Mckinney)...shoot me a PM with your number, I will call you and go through everything that is on my Apex...Im Uverse as well...

Thanks so much for all the info, help, and offers, but I got it all worked out! It was indeed my DNS servers, and subnet. Got the right numbers and it works. I got a dns address, installed the WGA and I'm cooking with grease. Just need to program now! Thanks again.

Just Looked at my setting and they look the same as yours. I have noticed the Apex has some bugs that seem transient. For the longest time i couldn't get my to hook up my my apple extreme and then one day it happened. Try rebooting the system.
