Apex Email Setup

I am trying to set up my email alert on my Apex controller and I am struggling. I read the unofficial user guide and have put the info in exactly how it shows.

email enabled
smtp server: mail.gmx.com
smtp port: 587
from: jdunphy14@gmx.com
to:jdunphy14@gmx.com
alt: phonenumber@vtext.com
re-email delay:60
email aunthentication: enabled
user name: jdunphy14@gmx.com
password: *******

I checked the email test box and I have not recieved an email. What am I doing wrong?
 
Are you able to access you apex from the internet , I mean outside your house like with WiFi turned off on your phone
 
Those are the same settings I have, so it has to be network related. I am assuming that you are clicking the update settings box after you check the email test box and you are checking your gmx mail account. If so, then something is preventing it from getting through to the internet.
