Apex is down- HELP!!

Came home today and my LEDs were off, tried to log into the Apex and it would not work- looked at display screen and it is out, nothing at all. lights are on the control form Ethernet but it will not respond at all. Anyone know anything i can do,,, Tunzes are off, only return is on....
 
they are flashing orange-- variable portions are down, lights and Tunze. Seems that anything that operates on regular power is coming on, not positive yet. Im trying to figure out how to update.... im on my iMac, connected wireless to router that Apex is plugged into. When i launch the utility it states, " host is down" after multiple attempts to log into controller. Seems that power was out today for a couple of hours. Everythign is plugged into surge protectors though. Corrupt firmware maybe form the outage?

Im stressed out!

That would be my guess as well.

Try unplugging your controller from all power.
Start the utility loader
Let it search for the controller - it won't find it. Let it timeout a couple times.
Plug the controller in
May take a couple of tries but sometimes this works when the loader can't talk to the controller. What happens is as soon as you power on the controller it goes into boot mode. It only stays here a few seconds before moves on but in that time, if it sees the loader then it will handshake and continue the process. That's why it may take a couple of tries.
 
i unplugged the usb cord that comes from an EB8 and power to the unit goes down.. variable.. I am assuming this is the only power source. I have tried to launch utility and then plug that usb cord back in to see if it will hand-shake but i havent got it to do it yet. No access to unit at all.
Weird thing is when i launch the utility, it will show my named apex over to the right at any given time, i click on it- then click update and it will "time-out" funny thing is that when i first tried it, it asked for the password, i may have typed it in wrong, i thought so,but it hasn't asked again even though i restart program.
 
You have to have the utility running, then click UPDATE to start the firmware load, wait 10 - 15 seconds, then plug your controller in to power. You want it to timeout a couple of times before you power up the controller.
 
i meant- my unit always shows over to the left--- i clicked update and then plugged in usb/power to unit.. tried a few times so far-- any other suggestions?

I had a similar thing happen after a power outage, after conversing with Neptune's customer service (it's really top notch) we basically had determined that I had to send the base unit back. It got stuck with the fallback position OFF. It sounds like you've got some good people here throwing out some ideas but, if everything doesn't work, go to Neptune's website and contact them. I was glad I did
 
i sent off an email- hopefully we can figure out something- unit is maybe 6 months old-- just trying to figure out how to temp it all in if i have to send it back to them. tank is at 75 degrees but starting to warm up now.. everything is stressed from lack of flow, temp etc... will let you all know, i sent a data log with an email, i have tried everything to get in and even got another pc laptop form a friend to try and older version of updating. just states it is in boot-command mode and when i try and update it just sits there, says ARP found at 192.168.1.171-- i have no idea what that is.
 
Neptune will help you out and somebody might even get back to you today (Sunday).

In the mean time, any outlet that you had Fallback ON defined should have power at this point if you have the EB8 plugged in to the wall. Hopefully that will be outlets for permanently on devices like pumps and power heads as well as heaters and chillers that have their own t-stats. Move cords around if you have to.
 
Do you happen to have a network layout such that the iMac is on a different subnet than the Apex is? For example, some routers use one range, e.g., 192.168.1.x for a wired connection, and another, e.g., 192.168.2.x, for a wireless connection.

If that's the case, the updater on the iMac won't be able to contact the Apex, and a solution would be to temporarily move either of the devices to the same subnet.
 
looked in router for "wired" devices. i seen one i di not recognize so i unplugged the Apex, it went away, then i plugged it back in and it came back. still will not let me IP into it with that IP either. Any suggestions? i have a windows based laptop beside me, both running wireless to router and router to switch for Apex and other devices.
 
noticed today that the status light for the base module is not on at all. This would tell me that firmware is not problem. :(

BTW Paul emailed me today... Sunday!!! I know we spend the $$ for the top of line stuff because i know i spent almost 1K on all of my stuff. Good to know customer service is there for ya.

Yep, that makes a huge difference in diagnosing the problem.

If you have a 12 volt AC adapter around (2.1mm tip, center positive, 500ma or more), you can plug that into the Apex - if it fires up, then you may have a bad AquaBus cable, a failed EB8 (which normally supplies power to the Apex), or a failure in part of the Apex. If the status light on the EB8 is lighted green, then the B8 is probably fine. You could also try using different AquaBus ports on both Apex base and EB8.
 
well a new base unit came in today- most things are back up- had to reconfigure everything..... problem is that the /tunze do what they want.. I set the assignments for time 09:30 to 20:30 for TunzeNight, they run at 100 percent.. i try and do ramps fro day- they still stay at 100 percent.. i remember have a terrible time before with the tunze, can anyone help me out please?
