Apex or apex lite?

What's the difference? The lite sales for $369 and the other for $499. What does the full Apex control the the lite can't? Are they the same head unit? could you later expand the lite to include everything the full Apex comes with?

Here is Ken's initial report from MACNA regarding the Apex Lite:

* Apex Lite - this is an Apex with 1 PH port and no variable speed ports. It has networking, temp, PH, control (for legacy DCs and X10) and is about $100 less than the Apex. The package includes the base, display and 1 EB8 and lists for $370 (you need a PH probe in addition). Basically, an Apex without Variable speed pumps). Note: There are no other limits; you can add modules and EB8s till you run out of space to mount them!

The Neptune website mentions ORP, so the single port is probably pH/ORP selectable. It also mentions variable speed pump control under Timers, but that is probably a cut/paste error. Or maybe it means it maintains the software capability and can be used for an expansion module.

I was thinking about getting an Apex Lite, but after purchasing a PH probe it is only about what $75 to $80 difference? Is it worth just spending the extra $75-$80 and getting a regular Apex? I thought it would have been at least $100 difference between apex and lite with a temp and lab ph probe, but it doesn't seem to be that way unless I am not looking at the best priced vendors for Apex.

If you would ever use the variable speed port for controlling lights or Tunze pumps then the extr $75 would be worth it but if not...
