API saltwater master test kit

It's at petsmart by me, is it a good test? I hear people on here talking about expensive salifert tests all the time, but what's wrong with the API ones, if anything?

People swear by it for freshwater (yeah yeah, I know - fresh isn't as complicated as salt!)

I know that doesn't help, but I never really considered them to be. My buddy has an API test kit. When I showed him my Elos kits, he threw his away and ordered all new ones.

I also keep a FW planted tank, so I am aware of the differences in test kits. Spend your money wisely.

Once you try Salifert you'll never go back. I should get paid for this. :lol:

i meant the CHEAP salifert tests! haha $30 isn't expensive by any means for a single piece of equipment for a reef!

API stands for Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Salifert expensive????

For me and my budget, heck yes it is. $20+ for a Salifert kit versus $5+ for an API kit. Like I've said before, I use API for general testing and Salifert for accuracy.

Once you begin to know the ups and downs of your aquarium, you'll realize that there are trends. Anytime you do something bad by accident, something dies, the trend from the not-so-good test kits aren't as predicted, etc then definitely use the Salifert for a more accurate answer.

API makes a fine test kit for the money. I've found them reasonably accurate. Color charts are easy to read and the tests are pretty straight forward.
