approx setup costs

hey i have 2 tanks but im not sure which to setup because im nto sure of the exact costs..1. because im not 100% still on everythign needed for the tank and 2. how much LR/LS to put in each.
my tanks are a
20gal, 61cmL, 31.5cmW, 40cmH
10gal, 51cmL, 25cmW, 31cmH

what would you think the approx setup prices would be and what i would need to set them up??(including an approx amount of LR/LS)

Boy that is a loaded question. First...
Are you going new or used?
What will be in the tanks?
FOWLR? Softies? zoo's and mushrooms?
Decide what livestock you want in the tanks and work from there.
Also check out Canreef for fellow Canadians in you area with used stuff.

depending on what you want to keep. lighting could go from $10 to $200.

o yea srry its only LR and LS and some inverts but no added hard corls/softies will be in the tank only things that could grow off the lr/ls

So a 10 gallon FOWLR and a 20 gallon FOWLR, either needs about 1-2lbs of LR per gallon, cost will depend on source... Sand would be about 30 bucks for a bag which should be enough for both tanks going with a SSB. Salt will depend on how much you want, the more you get the less it is per gallon. Lights can be N.O. Florescents, a HOB filter (30 bucks) and skimmer (90-180 bucks) per tank. Do you want your own RO/DI filter or do you have a source for water? If you're only setting up one, go with the largest you can. If the cost of LR is your limiting factor, you really shouldn't try to get into the hobby right now. These start up costs are just part of what your tank will cost you down the road. What's your budget and monthly budget for maintenace, perhaps we can put together a plan based on what you can spend.

$30/gallon, US currency, is a pretty safe estimate. Prices may vary in Canada though..........
