I just moved my 90 gal. across 5 states. I am slowly getting my animals from family an friends back home. yet, now I have a hitchhiker that is in the form of a aptasia. In the past they have not been that big of a deal. However this one is getting bigger an bigger an I am scared it will start stinging fish an corals soon. In the past I would sick a peppermint shrimp on them, but now I live in an area where there is no LFS. so if I buy anything it is mail order. who wants to buy just a peppermint shrimp with mail order? it is not worth it. anyone else had any success with other methods?

The idea of taking the rock out to wash off the critter is out of the question, it is a very large base rock. :strooper:

I zapped one yesterday with a solution of tank water and pickling lime(as recommended by a friend).
I mixed about a tablespoon into a cup of tank water, using the thick mix at the bottom of the cup and then squirted about 5Ml with a syringe right on it's oral disc. When it retracted into it's hole, I dripped a little more into the hole and it layed in there(lime gel) for about 30 minutes.
The Aiptasia hasn't been back out since......

Good luck !!

If it gets too big the peppermint wont cope anyway - good idea to have them in the tank to control the juvenile aptasia.

Would go with Joes Juice or Aiptasia X. Used both.

Are you overfeeding the tank

I use lemon juice injections to kill mine all the time, just make sure you monitor your levels afterwadrs, it tends to have an adverse affect on ca and alk.

If you are able to get to the aiptasia, and there are no corals in the immediate vicinity, just boil some fresh water in the microwave (rolling boil). Take a syringe from an old test kit and use the syringe to squirt 1 ml or so of water on it. The hot water will kill it.

If there is a coral right next to the aiptasia, then try the Joe's Juice, Aiptasia X, or make a Kalk paste and smear on the aiptasia.

Whatever you do, do NOT try and remove with tweezers - you will just end up with 10 babies in your tank.
