Aptasia

I had some on the rocks in my sump. I was checking on them occasionally then they disappeared. It had to be bristleworms that got them. That's the only thing down there.

Bristleworms do not eat Aptasia. They can recede into the rock to not show up again for months.

I just got peppern

I just got peppern

Hey.
I am putting this topic in this forum because aptasia is said to be an anemone. I have had a recent outbreak. 4 heads of aptasia. I took the rock out of the tank. I am hoping i got the only pieces that were in there. I was very careful not to disturb the aptasia so it would not reseed anywhere else. what can I do with these pieces of rock to kill the aptasia. i am not oposed to letting these pieces totally dry out. but would rather not have to do that

I just got peppermint shrimp. that took care of it.

yo make sure you get the Lysmata wurdemanni (peppermint shrimp) the only problem with these guys is their scavengers and might pick at coral. if you inject it use aiptasia x the best way to do it is to go slow with the needle don't try, and jab at it. If it's live rock depending on the size i would just dry it out

I tryied the syringe and lemon its hard to ***** them fast buggers. and the thing is peppermint shrimp is they are hit or miss.

Aiptasia will reproduce like wild fire and take over the entire tank if left to its own. They sting anything close to them and although they seem small and harmless it's a huge struggle to get rid of them once they take hold. I've had great luck with peppermint shrimp. I have 3 in the DT and NO aiptasia. I do have it in the sump and corner overflows but the shrimp keep it out of the main display. I'm okay with it in the non-viewing area because it is a filter feeder... as long as it stays out of the DT. BTW, an added benefit of the peppermint shrimp is that they regularly 'give birth' and feed the rest of the tank.
