Aptasia

Ok, Since I've lost just about everything in my tank due to Sandy, I now have a clean tank except for aptasia that somehow survived(well a snail and a red legged hermit survived too). Is there a way of going thermo-nuclear on the aptasia before I start adding animals to the tank? My rock looks pretty good except for a little green hair algae, but they are turning purple again. I've been using aptasia-x for some time now which knocks it down but never really cures the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

I agree with the above suggestions. If the amount of aiptasia is really dense, I would probably boil the rock and re-cycle it Another option would be a Kleini or Raccoon butterfly. They would both tear through the aiptasia. Obviously they would have to come out when you started putting coral in. Lastly some LFS have Berghia Nudibrachs that will eat the aiptasia and breed in the tank. When there is no more aiptasia they die. HTH

Do the majano wands kill aiptasia? I have some in my sump (between baffles) and in my overflows....which are tuff to put kalkwasser paste on.
