hey,

im new to saltwaer and right now i have a 12 gallon aqua pod
thats been cycled, it has 1 green reef chromis and 2 turbo snail, 2 blue leg hermit crabs. and some live rock

i wanted to add some more fish and i was thinkin of either a clownfish, firefish or cardinal fish
which one would be better and how many fish could i keep?

thanks
:)

Greetings kkyyllee,
Your tank def. seems in good shape right now and it seems you have been patient :) I also have a12g NC (not an aquapod). As far as another fish to keep with the chromis, clownfish are my #1 choice-IMO. They are very pretty, hardy, and live well in small tanks (the ocellaris clown). The clownfish would also be a good companion for the Chromis. The firefish I also love, but will not keep as it is a carpet diver and you have to be very careful with them. I have heard the cardinal fish get quite lonely if they are not with another of the same species. Personally, I would go with the Clownfish. Once those 2 fish are happy in the tank i'd say for about 3 weeks + you may be able to get away with adding 1 small goby (neons etc). Don't push it & remember to keep up with your weekly or so water changes. I would love to see pics of your tank! Good Luck with everything.

this is with the dual actinic lights

best i could get

Hi kkyyllee,
As far as some easy corals, I would say softies are best to start with. This means like shrooms, polyps, zoos, maybe leathers etc. What type of lighting do you have on the tank? That also depends on what you can keep. Softies are easy to care for and done need too much light. When you can, post some newer pics with more LR, and the new fish :)

not sure bout pics. but soon hopefully-- my tank has these lights-
1x27 watt dual sunpaq daylight lamp (6700k\10,000k)
1x27 watt dualn sunpaq actinic lamp (420nm/460nm)
2 x nocturnal lights blunar lights (LED)

and im probly getting clownfish today :]

you trying to grow astro turf??...lol..jk
dont add anything in yet other than some hermits or a snails... no fish, corals(of any kind) or shrimp. get a few more lbs of REALY GOOD LR! and wait 3mo.
IMO, ditch the lights and get a "current USA 150 hqi"
do water changes (3-4gal) a week regardles of what you read.
DO NOT ADD ANY CHEMICALS OF ANY SORT to get rid of "this, that or other things".
NO FISH.... PERIOD. till 3mo have passed, no matter what!
ditch the noob bio balls, sponge filter, go to walmart get a bag of "morning glory" polyester pillow/quilters stuffing. MAKE SURE IT HAS NO FIRE RETARDENT AT ALL!!
buy an ro/di unit, dont have to spend a wad.. even ebay is good for now.
buy good salt an have a rubber-maid trash can with ro/di water and salt already mixed
follow these and write me in 3mo with more questions

so the lights are no good?
i already have some tiny polyps growin and they seem fine they came with live rock, i already got hermits and snails along with a green chromis
everything seems fine, i havent added any chemicals and amonia and nitrite are at zero

there are just 9 or so lines of instructions... very easy to follow. please resist the tampering, tinkering, fiddling, meddling, farting around with..... patience, patience, patience.
last advise/last time
the only thing that comes quickly in saltwater is death!
