Aqua Treasures Mysis?

Does anyone know anything about Aqua Treasures Mysis Supreme? I was talking to an employee at my LFS (very knowledgeable guy) and he was telling me about this. He said it is the exact same stuff as PE mysis. It is the same Mysis relicta and he said it is harvested out of the same lakes in Canada as PE. In fact, he said PE attempted to sue Aqua Treasures for copying their product but lost. If you check out both of their websites, they say almost the exact same things.

I bought a flat pack of it and have to say it seems exactly the same as the PE mysis to me. It is just as large, and my fish go absolutely nuts for it. Any thoughts?

I switched to it from PE Mysis. My LFS started carrying it about a month ago. I have to say it does seem very similar (if not identical to PE) but much more affordable.

Great food... haven't found a fish, invertebrate, or LPS coral that doesn't love eating it. I would recommend rinsing it in some ro/di before use though as aforementioned.

I think PE's product is fresher and more in tact. Nutritionally, I think they will have similar ratings. This is still a decent mysis option, but it seems like AT's overdoes it with the enrichment- the mysis are saturated in a oily solution and I would be willing to bet that the mass of this solution is significant and in turn a percentage of the product (and your $) is wasted the rinsing process. PE also enriches their mysis, but I think they do so optimally and in turn the bulk of their product is viable food.

This is merely my opinion. I'm offering this after having seen numerous bulk shipments of both brands that are kept in a legitimate deep freezer.

I would have to agree. I feed PE mysis every day as one of three/four feedings.

I talked with one of these guys awhile back, i dont remember him saying they enriched the shrimp at all. I could be wrong though, its been awhile.

As far as PE vs AC goes, its the same shrimp. He was telling me their boats literally go past each other often during the harvest lol.

What kind of price difference are you guys seeing?

From what I've seen the AT costs about half as much as PE.

Any more thoughts/opinions?

This is a make it or break it point for me. I HATE feeding my fish "dust". So, is this experience from multiple packages? Just want to know if your experience is a trend or not...

Yes. This is from numerous packages/orders. (I'm assuming this is directed at me and not others for a wider sense of if my exp. is a trend or not )

I asked a professional aquarist what he thought about AT's mysis and if it held up to PE. He was very disapproving of AT's product. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what his opinion was based on.

Personally, I think it makes a okay substitute for PE. Most home aquarists don't take the time to thaw/rinse their mysis properly anyways! If you are keeping highly sensitive animals like seahorses or pipefish, then I would definitely stick with PE and fork the extra few bucks.

There will always be some of us die hard PE lovers out there, no matter how high the costs soar! :fun5:

Aqua Treasures vs Piscine Energetics

Aqua Treasures vs Piscine Energetics

The director of the company Aqua Treasures is my ex brother in law. They started fishing in the Okanagan Lake in the summer of 1999 and yes Piscine Energetics was there first; however, Aqua Treasures made a bid to the government to remove the mysis from the lake and got the licenses. Piscine Energetics were allowed to keep the licenses they had but my understanding is that they were not allowed to put more boats on the water whereas Aqua Treasures has 7 licenses.

It is the exact same product. It is fished out of the lake and hand packaged immediately and then put in the freezer of the boat. Once it is full it is then transported to cold storage.

Neither product is rinsed before it is packaged and yes it should be before feeding it your fish as the oils leave a residue at the top of the water in your tank and can create the issue of no oxygen in your water.

Aqua Treasure is cheaper than Piscine Energetics so feed away lol!!! I only feed my fish mysis every couple days and a package lasts me a month for my 55 gallon tank. I am lucky though ...I don't pay for the product lol!!

The guys running the boats in the Okanagan are very approachable and have YEARS of experience as they are all commercial fisherman from up in Prince Rupert. If you have any questions you can find Vince McGee on his email at info@aquatreasures.ca.

Hope this helped clear some things up.

Thanks for your input Marni. How can you be sure that it is the same product? I believe you that they are the same mysis, fished out of the same lake. Still, that doesn't necessarily mean that they receive the same enrichment or are identical products.
