Aqua World

Well I finally broke down and visited the local Aqua World off Manchester.

Can anyone guess what my experience there was like? It was not close to closing time, and I was the only customer in the store.

I don't have to guess, I have been there. I prefer the one in south city, he has the most amazing assortment of freshwater plants, stocks Eheim parts and lots of freshwater goodies.

Yeah, the one off Manchester is weird. I live close by. Hardly any Saltwater stuff available, but each time I'm in there (once a year) there seems to be more. Very strange vibe, like Clark said. Almost like they don't want the buisness.

You all were pretty much right. I walked in and the guy looked at me and said "you need something?" I would have given him some choice invectives, phrases I have garnered from years of experience in the Marine Corps and working in a factory seting, but I had Katie with me.

Missed my chance I did...

that store has a beautiful selection of plants and fw fish, the plants are pretty expensive, but super nice

I think it is just more tailored to the pond/fw crew, so we may not like it, but I thought their facilities were very nice and clean

your representation of customer service was fairly accurate, however if you when the younger dudes (like 20 year olds) are working there then they help you out pretty well....you still kind of have to go up to the front counter and ask them to get you some fish

There are two different stores the original is located on Manchester road in Baldwin about a far west as Manchester road goes. This is the store originally spoken of in the thread and is run by the father.

The second store is located on Gravois Rd. East of Bevo Mill inside the city limits This store is run by both sons and is the one that I frequent more often than not and the "boys" can be quiet personable as well as helpful. As many in this hobby allready know price can be a reflection of quality vs. other stores and I would have to think that this is truly the case when talking about there fw plant and fish selection and sound general knowledge base at there stores.

IMHO,

JJ

good post JJ,

just to make sure I wasnt misunderstood I was definitely giving the store a POSITIVE review...if I had FW I would shop there...

Hey now, Manchester Rd goes all the way past 44 and back over, then past Washington MO! We're not out THAT far!

And it was the 20 something year old that was there.... Dude could have provided a little more positive customer service. I would not shop where the people were rude. I'd take my business online before I'd do that...

the guys in the city are cool and I usually end up spending an hour talking to them. If you're ever looking for an old part they usually got it upstairs. been a while though nice gents

the old man out near the jungle, he is cool if you just get to know him just like anybody else. He always says "hello just fine" when I ask him how's it going. I love it when I have to move a box or whatever in the way to see the Big Pacu tank. I look over and he is usually shaking his head. Some people are just born grumpy look at capo. But you just look past that you never know. They have helped me out in my cichlid days. Howie put yourself in their shoes when they see you come walking in. :D

If you guys want to be negative about it this thread is pointless.

Not being negative Dennis, at least I was not trying to be. I walked in with Katie, and we were the only people in the store. And as I had Katie with me I would have thought we looked more innocent instead of hungry...

Instead of asking.. 'Can I help you?' or 'Can I help you find something?', the young gentleman there looked at me and said "Do you need something?"

You'd get a lot more favorable reaction and make a better impression if you tried something like a How can I help you?

They did have a nice selection of freshwater stuff, and some realy neat albino frogs. I just thought this kid's customer service skills could use some polishing up.

The store did have quite the selection of plants, and pond gear. I choose to shop places where I get good service and advice. I have my favorite LFS choices, and I come here for most of my advice (good and bad)!!!

If they wanted to improve business without spending one dime, a simple how can we help you would suffice.... It just seemed like my experience echoed the experiences of many others who have been there.
