Aquabacs' Cadlights Artisan 50 Azooxanthellae Tank build

Welcome to the club Mike! I look forward to your observations and experiences with this beautiful coral. Hopefully betweeen all of us we can figure out how to get these corals to thrive in captivity.

Were you cherry picking the LA/DD supplier again by any chance when you got your Disto? I ask only because I just picked up a blue Distichopora myself last night on DD.

Best of luck with it! Maybe we can compare notes.

I'm glad you got that one rowjimmy! I hope that more show up once I get my bigger tank set up. That one is beautiful, be sure to share some actual pics.

The blue Distos were not coming from there, I believe they came from out of Cali. The one last night look pretty nice. Now there are some Bali cultured Scleronepthea that came in that I want to check out.

That's a BEAUTIFUL specimen Mike! Do you plan on mounting it to the rockwork or leaving it in the substrate?

Thanks, I have an area that I would like to mount it to but I wanted to try a few things to the coral first before I do that. First need to get the gasterozooids to extend. Then see if there is any specific reaction to any of the types of food we have available. After that, then move it to different locations in the aquarium and see if the gasterozooids will still extend. I dont want to mount to a location that I feel looks good but the coral will not respond to feeding in.

Mike, mine seems to react best to a mixture of Nutramar Ova Prawn Eggs, DT's, cyclopeeze and reeds eggs and rotis. Blended all up to a cloud and put in the tank with the pumps off.

That is awesome to see you are getting a good feeding response.
It is very promising.
beautiful coral pics !

Thanks for the info! I am working on seperate dosing of foods first to see if there are any reaction. I will try that mix over the weekend. I dont have DT's right now but I can substitute it with Shelfish Diet.

I also want to start working on set-up to keep live rotifers but one thing at a time.

Mike

Still no feeders out, but the coral slimmed up. Kind of got a white coating all over it. It went away in about 30 minutes. I am going to try the mixture again on Saturday. I wish I had a good lens on my camera it would make observing it easier.

Could be wrong, but if you look in the center of the picture, there is a small section of the coral that looks almost patterned. Within that pattern, there are very small, hair like lines slightly coming out. What do you think?

Mike

Hey Mike...I got mine today. I noticed those pattern like growths on my colony as well. If you look closely at my pics you will see them.

At first I thought it might be parasites, but they are hard and do not come off the coral. They seem to be growing within the skeletal structure of the branches.

I don't think they are part of the gasterozooids. The gasterozooids expand from tiny "pores" on the surface of the branches. I'm stumped on what the "patterned" growths could be, but they are very interesting!

Nice piece!

I dont think they are gasterozooids, just interesting. I am going to see, if anything, develops.
