Coral Steroids!

Coral Steroids!

IMG_5835-1.jpg

I fed this Rhizo about two hours ago the new LPS food from Fauna Marin and when I came back home the coral was expanded HUGE! Now this a a large Rhizo to start out with but it was extend over 8 inches across. All my Rhizos were extended greater than they normally are too. With just one feeding I am impressed so far and very optimistic. I honestly dont know what Claude did with this mix of food but if this continues, he might have one of the hottest foods to come out for our non-photosynthetic LPS corals.

Going on 24 hours and the corals all still swollen from Fauna Marin's LPS+ food (should be marketed as Coral Viagra). Tubastrea looks great today. I will post a picture up of them later.

How long do you think the bottle will last you? Is it going to be used as a treat or as a primary food?

How long will the bottle last? Even with supplemental feeding 2-3x a week I might be able to pull a month to a month and a half out of a 100ml bottle.

The pellets are very small. In order to target feed the corals I wanted to; I took a glass of aquarium water, put in a 1/8 a spoon of LPS food, and fed a few corals with a turkey baster. I did this about 5 times to feed all my corals.

I am interested in grinding it up an see what effects it has on target feeding other corals.

Hmm thats not very long at all for only 2-3 feedings/wk. Of course you have a lot more LPS than me so maybe I can extend it to 3 mos. (hopefully).

I assume it is small enough to feed the archohelia colonies as well?

It should last longer in your tank, also depends on what other corals can be fed with the food. The larger polyps were able to capture the food. It was a little tricky feeding my colony even with the pumps turned off (due to my colony's shape).

On a different note, one of my crinoids did have interest in the food. I am going to try to grind up some pellets with my ususal food mix I direct feed my crinoids with and see what happens.

Happy water change Saturday.

Changed all my filters in my RO system, flushing the filters right now, and then going to start mixing up some ESV salt. After that, today I need to do a full cleaning of my sump and skimmer.

Hi

I will bring some larger and some very small particles with the same system on the market
the next food will be the size range for ZOA / DISC also for smaller polyps

rgds claude

Claude, having additional sizes in the pellets would be helpful, especially with the larger species of LPS corals. As for the smaller size pellets, I have a use for them besides feeding LPS corals

It is a Menella sp. gorgonian. It will actually have greater polyp entension in time with continuous feeding. This particular gorgonian I was searching for since I saw in on a UK forum a few years back. I believe there are 2 other members in this forum that also have this type of gorgonian.

Menella sp. are one of the more easy to keep non-photosynthetic gorgonians. The larger polyp non-photosynthetic species seem to be much easier to sustain in a closed system.

AH , It was hard to tell with all those polyps in the way .LOL
Looks like it would be a good candidate for the ......"stocking a NPS tank" thread if you have time.

I will see if I can work on tonight ;) Right now I working on an article on crinoids and it is due to the editor by the end of next week (also working on a seperate on Azoox coral husbandry). Once the article if published I will post a link in my thread (as long as I am not in violation on the user agreement in this forum)

Mike

Mike that sounds great .
I would be very interested in both of the articles.
If it is found to violate the rules ,I would very much appreciate a PM with the link.
.Thanks and congrats on your writing !
