AquaC CLUB!

Rsaha: since you are setting it up for the first time, I would not choke it back (yet) let it foam up for a few days and see how that goes, then after it is consistent Id choke it back if need to fine tune the bubbles (make them smaller) but since you are using a mag 5, you may not have to. Tha cap with th hole is what makes sure there is no back-pressure while reducing noise. Doesnt matter if its a slip fit or thread in my opinion. There are several pics in the tread I think, if not chat me and Ill see what I have.

Arredondojason: if it pulled gunk out after a week or so then stopped -- has the neck and riser been cleaned? That will stop it from working well if all caked with gunk. Alos check the input into the black box -- sometimes a snail shell or debris gets clogged in there and stops performance too. As long as the tank is being fed -- it should produce. Im assuming you have livestock in the tank.

Hi Seth,

When I first put it back together (I've had it for 3 years - it has skimmed OK just never great) I had the air wide open and it flooded immediately. I have 1/3 cup on brown (coffee with cream) coloured skimmate at the moment. Changing the impeller on the Mag 5 has made it push harder so if it isn't equivalent to a Mag 7 at least it's moving in the right direction.

Right now I have small bubbles on the bottom but bigger bubbles about half way up with the burping big bubbles. I will let it run for a couple days to see what happens.

If I still have the big bubbles that means that I need to choke back a little more on the air, right?

no it is not being fed and there is no live stock in the tank at this time. i am deployed to afganistan and set it up when i was home for 2 weeks waiting to go home in like a month thank god. when i get home i am breaking down my 150 and moving over to my 240 gallon tank. It just has rock and sand in it right now. my wife dosent know that much about the hobby i tought her how to feed and how to clean the skimmer so.

water level for this skimmer to work properly

water level for this skimmer to work properly

I am about to construct the baffles in my sump. I have a Aqua C EV180 Skimmer with Mag 9.5 pump. My question is what height should I make the baffles? Or really what height should the water level be in the sump for this skimmer to work properly and consistent?

Thanks,

Larry

Got A question I have a 65g sumpless I I was thinking about putting a Remora w/MJ1200 on it would this be a good choice ?

if you make the water in the sump over 10" then you will have to build a stand to raise the skimmer above the water.if not then it can sit in the water.
just google AquaC EV180 skimmer instructions and it will take you to a page and it will tell you everything about your skimmer. I have the EV240 and love it.

Why does Tom Neely have that white T on the output?

I have a similar Tee on the output... these skimmers wont work well if there is any backpressure on the output. The Tee will reduce backpresssure plus if you have another pipe going down into the sumps water and then drill an end cap with a few holes it works like a Durso to reduce noise. It is a nice mod to do. Very easy.

You got it Wheel. The mod helps keep the flow out of the skimmer in my "skimmer area" of the sump instead of splashing in my fuge....

Just a question?
I am trying to tell if I have a 1" or 3/4" injector and how to tell. The barb fitting of my injector is 3/4" INSIDE diameter. Is this designation for 3/4? When I called Steve, before I recieved my used 240, he said to see what size hose fit on it. Well, 1" inside diameter tubing does fit on my injector barb.
Any help on what size I have?

Nobody's got an answer ????

I was using an Urchin Pro (in sump version) with the Rio on my 65 with 20g sump and I just switch to a ev-180. The Urchin Pro was just not doing enough for me. I would suggest something larger for a 65.

On another note I am using a Rio 14HF instead of the mag 9.5 (or Mag 7). It is much quieter than the Mag 9.5 and I would not need a valve on the output to restrict the flow because I leave it fully open and it runs just where I need it. Just a tip for anyone looking for a pump on the ev-180

What is the best secure method to attached the hose?

What is the best secure method to attached the hose?

This is going on a AquaC EV-180 with a Eheim 1262 so it will have a little pressure.

What is the best secure method to attached the hose?

Metal (worried about corrosion) or plastic hose clamps or other method.

I don't want to wake up one morning to find water all over the floor because a hose blew off of a fitting.

Thanks,

Larry

Sorry"”I might have double posted this problem:confused:

Thanks for any help.

Read before you post, please!

Read before you post, please!

This is such an awesome thread for owners of AquaC skimmers, like myself.

There is an extremely awesome amount of info here, and I can't thank all of you enough for providing such great input and experiences. I have learned a lot!

I have read the entire first 40 pages, and then moved on to the second set of 40 pages and I'm about halfway through those. 1200 posts so far!

I only wish the title of the thread included the following, so the same info could have been condensed into half the space:

New people to this thread: Please don't simply post a question without reading the whole thread from the beginning. Chances are, the answer to your specific question has been answered in this thread already...and with pictures, even!

I know I am new here, but I have spent hours longer than was necessary due to a new reader of this thread simply posting their question without reading first, when their question had been asked and replied to 20 times previously in this thread.

Please don't think I'm attacking anyone in particular, just trying to make info easier for other people to find in the future. I suppose I am only annoyed because after reading all of this, I see questions posted that I know were answered 60 pages or so ago, and I know the answer to the question from reading the thread.

I apologize if my tone is harsh sounding. If I'm alone on this one, please tell me to shut up, and I will get to your reply in a day or two once I've made it up to this page in my reading.

I do have a question that hasn't been answered up through post 1200, but I will wait to ask until I am finished reading.

And I promise my question is not, "Do you think the Eheim 1260 is a good pump for the EV-120 skimmer?" :-)

Thanks!

If you have the mag24, that is preferable in my opinion, but if not run the mag 18 and give it a shot to see how consistent (and small) the bubbles are before running out to buy another pump. Many use the 18. So many ways to tweak these skimmers to get them to work well
