Ev-240 Exhaust gate hieght

Ev-240 Exhaust gate hieght

How high from the base is the begining of the Ev-240 exhaust gate? I know I will have to plumb the exhaust above the water line so I was curious

Hi, I am a new AquaC ev-120 owner. Their customer service sold me over other skimmers. Anyways, basic question: should the exit gate be a touch higher than the normal sump height or the max sump height as if the power is out? Also, if you use a 90 degree off the exit valve to decrease sound where do you drill the siphon break/ thanks for your help.

Sump water should be just at the lower outflow lip when the system is running. Drill the hole (1/4") directly above the turned-down opening.

EV-180 Splashing Sounds

EV-180 Splashing Sounds

Hey everyone,

Great thread. I will certainly watch and add going forward.

My current problem is the noise caused by water splashing from the return (loudest noise factor in my setup). I've read 20+ pages and it seems the only workaround is a small filter sock which would require elevating the skimmer in the sump.

Are there any other solutions I can try?

Many thanks,

I'm sure u thought of this, but in case u didn't, how about stick'n a piece of foam in there and let the discharge run down on to the foam, that should go along way in quieting the beast and if your having issues with micro-bubbles the foam could help with that also....

Mag 9 Remora Pro

Mag 9 Remora Pro

So I tried out the Mag 9 with Remora Pro and Extened Collection Cup, and happy to say it is not to much pump for the skimmer, although it is a little to large for preskimmer filter box. So ...
I forced it and glued back the broken piece of box. Now its all good.

I just fired up my protein skimmer (AquaC EV-180) and was reminded just how loud the splashing was coming from the return back into the sump. I spoke with the guys at AquaC and put a small modification in place to minimize the splashing sounds. To be fair it was their idea, but the cap was my own contribution and makes a big difference.

The design uses the following parts:
1) 1.5" T (all slip)
2) Reducer (1.5" x 1")
3) Short 1" PVC pipe (>1")
4) 1" Male threaded, female slip adapter
5) 1.5" threaded cap (small hole drilled in top)

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/GMVZo-IZW_hRUtVxQdS3LQ"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ZuFzCJLe6G0/SUCmhesOAHI/AAAAAAAACBU/NFz50GJeMfk/s288/IMG_1537.JPG" /></a></td><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/9M0iFVlEMB-AsX68ihP5Lw"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ZuFzCJLe6G0/SUCmho0OyII/AAAAAAAACBc/0ziMJkE38k8/s288/IMG_1541.JPG" /></a></td></tr></table>

The step up to 1.5" plumbing results in no additional back pressure for the return which is below the water line. The loose cap allows air into the system but minimizes the audible splashing as the water returns.

Here's a video I put together that shows the difference in sound taken from the same position with and without the modification:

Let me know what you think.

Remora prefilter box?

Remora prefilter box?

I have the aqua c remora pro with mj1200 and really like it. I have had the skimmer box and never used it due to the difficulty of getting it to sit properly. I recently have created a modification to make it work but want to know if people think it is worth it as it takes up a good amount of space in a 65gal tank. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jeff,
I did the same thing with mine too. The only thing I did different was 4) 1" Male threaded, female slip adapter. I use a 1" Male threaded to 1.5" female slip adapter to reduce any back pressure.

I've posted pics and setup on a 240 w/mag-18 for other users.
Different thread, but you should find several recommendations on this unit w/mag.
In sump setup.
Sitting on a platform to riase the output above water line in sump.
Mag-18 w/2' of hose directly connected to 240.
1" injector.
Output gated to control water height in 240.
closing the gate to get water line equal to or just below the top of the black outside box of the skimmer.
Adjust air gate to control water level.
Once set and adjusted I fill the collection cup to the drain in 1-2 days with very dark skimmate. for the $$$s I say it is doing a great job. Am sure I could get a better skimmer, but still cant justify 1-2K for a replacement.

One thing to consider when you are doing your setup: by closing the gatevalve you are reducing the amount of water that is running through the skimmer and thereby reducing the turnover rate. Anything you can do to setup your system so that the gatevalve is wide open (or better still removed entirely) will maximize the tank turnover rate.

But would not having the gate valve closed down a little cause the skimmer to recirculate the water inside more. Giving it more contact time? So kinda a trade off.

I want to report the amazing results I am getting with Remora Pro with Mag 9 and extended collection cup. It is on a 45 gallon with 3 small fish that are very lightly fed. I replaced a Mag 7 with the Mag 9 and it is pulling thick sludge.
Now I just need to figure out how to fine tune my EV 240 with Mag 18. Considering upgrading to an external Iwaki 40 or 55.

Good God a Mag 9:eek2: Isn't it a wee bit noisey with that set up? I have my Remora Pro running with a Mag 350 and the noise is just about right for my bedroom. But a Mag 9? You obviously aren't using the skimmer box in your tank, because the biggest it can fit is a Mag 7.

I squeezed the Mag 9 into the box, and while doing so broke off a small piece of the top of the box that separates the two compartments, and then glued it back together (no biggy).
I don't really hear such a difference between the Mag 3, 7, or 9, as they are submerged and the tank is in a family room. I just cleaned the collection cup, but will try to snap a picture of it soon to show you the skim I am getting.

Not the noise from the pump, but the noise of the water stream hitting the water from in injector. It would seem more pressure, more water, more velocity equals more noise.
