Blootang,
Yes it has a hole to let air escape.
I just asked Andy at myreefcreations and he told me he has made several beckett housings with 3/4" to use on aquacÃ"šÃ‚´s.
He said, buyers really liked this modification... but ended buying his skimmer.
DO you think changing to a beckett injector could help? or should I buy a mag 24? or another skimmer perhaps?

Wow, sorry it took so long for me to find this tonite. I have the ev400 model. That water line is way too high. I've never used the mag pumps with the ev400 (I use the mak4 genx) but I can say from what you've described, that that mag 18 just aint cutting it! I'd put my dog (ev400/genx mak4) up against any other skimmer on the market! If your bubbles don't make the cup with the water height where it should be (somewhere within the air chamber, I strive to keep mine at the top, just out of sight in the riser) then the pump is deffinately suspect of power issues. This model is the best I've used and a beckett should not need to be considered.

A beckett is totally unnecessary for the AquaC line! (they already pull in massive amounts of air with small bubbles when driven right). Towards the bottom of page 7 are pics of my ev400 kicking A and taking names. :D Notice that there is no water line visable anywhere in the riser.

Hi all,
So IÃ"šÃ‚´m one of those who canÃ"šÃ‚´t make their skimmer to work.
I have a ev400 with a mag 18.
I just canÃ"šÃ‚´t make the skimmer to skimm to the collection cup, it all stays on the neck of the foam chamber and there will form a think mud paste, but nothing on the collection chamber.
SO I wrote Steve at Aquac and he told me to check the valves and inlets.
Well, I checked the water inlet, clean, checked the air valve, clean. ALso checked the hose and it wasnÃ"šÃ‚´t submerged.
I raised the water level in the foam chamber a little bit but there wasnÃ"šÃ‚´t any skimmate on the collection cup, even do the skimmer produces bubbles like crazy and there is a lot of foam coming up on the foam chamber, it just wonÃ"šÃ‚´t go into the collection cup.
IÃ"šÃ‚´ve been increasing the water level in the foam chamber, now it is about 1/2 of the cylinder and some skimmate is being collected in the collection chamber... but itÃ"šÃ‚´s too little and not consistently but from time to time. If I increase the water level more, the skimmer stops making bubbles.
IÃ"šÃ‚´m wondering if replacing the spray injector with a beckett valve could be beneficial, this way I could rise the water level even more and since the beckett is not dependant of air being present inside the back box, I think it could work nice.
BTW, I have the skimmer correctly installed, i have it on my sump and I raised it in order to have the water level below the gate valve. ALso, water level inside the sump is controlled with a auto top/off so it stays the same 24/7.
Please help me because I spent 480 dollars on this piece of equipment and canÃ"šÃ‚´t believe itÃ"šÃ‚´s not working.
Thanks
Marco
ps. here are some pics, this is what it has skimmed in 2 days! and this is one of the best skimming times, most of the time it wonÃ"šÃ‚´t produce not even this.

I first tried the mag 18 on the EV400 and it will not work. This is what you do, Call Jason at Aqua C, order a 1" injector just like the one he made for Greg Carroll's EV400 skimmer (not the ev1000). Next get a Mag 24 and plumb it to the skimmer with 1" hose. Close the airvalve 1/3 of the way. Open the gate valve all the way. After a while I raised the water level to the normal setting (just below the internal plate), maybe a tad higher to get fine bubbles w/ no large gurgling bubbles. This mod will blow you away. You will not need a beckett. Trust me on this.

If you want a beckett skimmer buy a beckett skimmer. Don't buy a spray injection skimmer and modify it into a beckett, it would be a waste of money. If you notice, beckett skimmers have a much smaller mixing chamber! it is a different design indeed.

Can't knock someting without trying it.
I am also curious about the 1"injector, how do u screw that in if it is the hole is made to accept 3/4"

IMO, a larger injector may help if you're running a pump not made for pressure. The 3/4 injector works just fine with a pressure rated pump.

Here's the pic again of my stink machine

I have a EV-180 that did exactly the same thing until I got 1 size bigger pump than Aqua recommended. I took my water valve off all together and control skimmer with how far the air valve is open. Great skimmer but does need a bigger pump.

I have a remora pro with pre-skimmer box, rio 1400, works awesome. I just purchased a ev120 for the sump I am building.:D
