Well, I got the panworld150 yesterday. I installed it and get it to work today.
OMG WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAN WITH THE MAG18!!!
Now my skimmer is working just like CaptainÃ"šÃ‚´s pictures!
I havenÃ"šÃ‚´t taken pics because I have to go to work, but this pump really makes a difference, and it is still working with the 3/4 injector, canÃ"šÃ‚´t wait for the 1" that has already been sent to me.
I had to cut the air about 1/2 because otherwise it would cause big bubbles, now I have small bubbles all over the foam chamber and IMHO this is working like a charm.
Definitely a mag18 is too small for this skimmer. I donÃ"šÃ‚´t know about the mag 24 but the panworld150 definitely makes a great job.
Captain, thanks for your advice, IÃ"šÃ‚´m glad I followed it.
IÃ"šÃ‚´ll post pictures tonight.
Thanks!
!

My level also sits at the top of the box with the gate fully open. Could this be because it's a smaller skimmer? There is no way I can run it with the air wide open either.
Yeah, the bubble formation in your pics looks very much like the skimmer has been gated some. I wonder if that Eheim is pushing so much water through there, that the water line is naturally in a great spot for great bubble production. (you know, do to the 1" exit hole, the water line must be backed up just right. I also remember that when I was running a mag9 on my ev180, I had taken the skimmers gate valve off)The inability to run the air wide open without serious flooding, also suggests that the pump has some serious power. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest this is putting a dent in the "turbulence in the box" theory, and that AquaC only recommends gating a pump to have a full range of water height options. (Although, I still don't understand their recommended water line. It does shed some light on why they still approve of underpowered pumps though).
I can see why you put some gate on but If I try, I get turbulence.
I think there should be an ev120, and ev180 models available with slightly taller risers for people with the room under the tanks for them. This would allow for the "riser turbulence" to subside as the bubbles expand on their way up the riser. Since the ev400 has a 12.5 inch riser, I should probably be carefull of the advise that I give.

Leopardshark,

If you are already closing the air off 1/2 with the 3/4" injector you probably do not need the 1" injector. I just don't think it is necessary with a good pressure pump.

Note: aqua c's recommended water level has changed to the top of the black box max, not the inside plate as it was before.
If look at updated manuals online, it states this.

Can't wait for my Eheim, its on backorder.. i took the qo4000 off the ev180 and put a sen 900 back on it temporarily.
Looks like I'm able to get fine bubbles but it has a little turbulence and not building up. But it does look a lot like the bubbles i was getting from my asm for 6 months before it finally "broke" in and just started working.
The asm is finally getting back working like it should since putting in the ev180, the ev180 being placed in there dropped its performance back, just like any new plumbing would do.
note the sen 900 i have a tee off the input with a ball to controll it, if i let if full bore, closing off the air all the way the water is still above the aqua c label. Any air in it and it will cause a flood at that level.

Well, it has already been sent. I will play with both so I can tell the difference between using both and then decide which one workd better for me.
Thanks!

After reading the thread about the gravity fed ev-180,
I thought about moving my remora to the sump and hooking up the output of the overflow to it. My overflow(rated at 600gph) is currently doing 400gph into the sump.

Has anybody ever tried gravity feeding a remora/urchin?

smells like fish......it looks like an ev120, and the sump is in the basement with a first floor display. I think that extra gravity drop may be needed for pressure. If you have a sump in your cabnet, I'd guess that there won't be enough pressure on the injector, and most of the water would bleed off instead of forcing its way through the injector.

Hi everybody --

nice thread for Aqua C owners !!!!

I have an EV180 / Mag 9 combo but never got a good foam. It's seems to be the "turbulence curse".

Does anybody could tell me which is the best way to attach a gate valve between the pump and the skimmer ? I'd like to check if I did the right thing :)

Pictures are welcome !!!! :p

Thanks !!!

I have a ev180 and sen 900 running, eheim 1262 should be delivered tuesday according to tracking..
got it running with sen900, trick is put pump in first section, that is smaller, and to isolate it from the bubbles coming from the overflow.
I took some plastic soft drink cups from convenience store, cut bottom of one, and put overflows into the bottom with the top of that one into top of another.
and have another cup that has side cut, and have that over the pump input but not where it would restrict it.
then let that pump rip. as its bubbling out the top, gradually turn in the gate valve, but not enough for it to stop going into the riser tube, just enough to keep from going over the top into the cup and keep doing this till it gets a Foam instead of the water bubbles. and close the air injector a bit as you're going, to dry it up. TOO much cutting off with the gate will drop it like a rock.
It takes a couple hours and patience, but in the end I was able to get a good foam head on it.
instead using valve in between pump and skimmer, the pump is going into a hose tee, and the valve is teed off back into the sump.

Most of the turbulence was from airbubbles getting to the pump input though.

Proud owner of a Remora, finally.

This is what it pulls out of my 30g in 1 1/2 weeks (I know it's not a full cup, but I am just happy about how black it is.)

Well,
Here they are. Thanks to CaptainÃ"šÃ‚´s and others people advice I bought a Panworld150 instead of getting rid of my skimmer.
THis was excellent advice since my skimmer is really pulling a lot of junk.
Here are some pics.

In this picture you can see the bubbles. If I close a little bit more the air valve bubbles will get smaller and IÃ"šÃ‚´ll have a steadier amount of bubbles rising, because right now there is still some turbulence in the bubble chamber, but the skimmate IÃ"šÃ‚´m getting is really good the way it is now so I think thereÃ"šÃ‚´s no reason to play with it if I have already found that "sweet spot".

What do you guys think??
BTW, IÃ"šÃ‚´m very pleased with the skimmer now, and trust me, if your skimmer isnÃ"šÃ‚´t working as it should, you need a bigger pump.

THis is my tank,
Sorry for my poor photo skills.
Acroporas look really nicer than in the photo, but youÃ"šÃ‚´ll get the idea.
Thanks!

hmm, i posted that the eheim would be tuesday, but low and behold, I walk out my door to leave for work tonight, and there sits a box delivered by fedex from drsfosterandsmith.. I'm like WoW, the tracking info said tuesday, but I'm not complaining.
We'll see what she does with the eheim instead of the Sen.
The sen had plenty power and then some though. A lot more than the eheim as far as water level in skimmer, I didnt' have time to play with it much, but have it turned on trying to get the eheim coated to start its "break in".
NOte the water level without restriction is about half way up,
The sen without restriction was blowing out the top, but once got to making foam would do fine for a 12 hours then suddenly stop foaming without touching it or the tank.

Leapordshark, NICE TANK!!! You may want to make sure that skimmer is level...

Ev-240 rocks

Ev-240 rocks

I have about 300 gallons total system volume with an ev-240 run off a panworld 100px. I have removed the air intake ball valve. I have the intake to the skimmer pump t'd into the drain outlet in my sump so it gets 100% raw overflow water. Best mod I've ever done! Now I can very consistent foam even with the water level far lower than the internal platform. I actually raise the water level up toward the end of a cleaning cycle to try to postpone cleaning and it still works great.

Has anyone ever tried an external pump on an ev 120 skimmer instead of a submersible? I have a Panworld pressure rated pump collecting dust in the basement. I think it pumps about 600 gallons per hour. I guess the problem would be plumbing it to my sump? Mark

Hi, thanks!
You mean because the skimmer is leaning to the right? Will it affect itÃ"šÃ‚´s performance?
Thanks!

Leopardshark....That's a stunning looking tank you've got going there. Congrats! The skimmer looks great now too! Mine leans a little also (not as bad) and the bubbles don't seem to mind. (yours don't seem to care either :D ) I am working on a plan to correct mine from leaning anyway.

Folks, the ev180 project is slightly delayed. My apt. owners switched management recently, and took a 5 min walkthrough everyones apartments last week. This happened when I was about to do a leak test on the new sump. :) So I put it in the closet, and tidied up last weekend instead. (pheeeeww, I thought they would tell me the 180tank has to go.)
So I finally get it running today after work, and the genX pcx30 is too loud and powerfull for this skimmer and cabnet sump application. And it was my cleanest plumbing work ever too, oh well. I'm ordering a Panworld 40PX-MD20R, tonite from Premium Aquatics, and I think that should solve my problem. It's the equivalent of an Iwaki MD 20RLT which both Premium and Reefgeek recommend for the ev180.
I'm dreaming of adding 4" or so to the riser (I have some spare 5" acrylic tube) if the new pump can push it. I'll test it out as is of course, but I may need you guys to hold me back later. ;)

printedpaper, I just checked Premium Aquatics and Reefgeek, and they both recommend the MD 20RLT for both the ev120 and ev180.

Hi Captain,
Thanks for your comments regarding my tank, actually there are a lot more corals (frags) that you canÃ"šÃ‚´t on the pic, because it was taken from a distant point in order to get the full tank shot.
But I have many nice acros in there, echinatas, blue yonguey, etc.
Ok, so IÃ"šÃ‚´m gonna level my skimmer, itÃ"šÃ‚´s gonna be easy as I only need a little piece of PVC to prevent it from leaning.
BTW, how come the administrators can come into your aptment and ask you to get rid of the tank?
BTW, on your pump issue, can you just "tee" the pump you have and use the unused exit for some other thing?
THanks
