Anyone else have experience with the preskimmer box on the aqua c remora? I'm getting serious bubbles into the tank from the skimmer and those get sucked in by my maxi and it's instant bubble snowstorm in there.

I'm a member, but I'm not a happy one. I've been very disappointed with my Remora since I got it.

I'm happily a member. I went from a ViaAqua to a remora w/ a MJ1200 on my 50g, and it worked awesome. I now have it on my 29g, and I am still thrilled. I bought it from a local whom had it for about 6 months. It did spit out a small amount of bubles for the first few days after I got it and also when I moved it, but otherwise its not spitting out near as many as the viaaqua.

Just a thought on the remora pro, they reccomend a mag 3, why in the hell were you running a mag 7 on it, its no wonder you didn't like it, you were overpowering it. A mag 5 would be the most you should run, unless I'm totally mistaken???

Mine is sitting in my "fish box" because it was pretty useless to me. Why? Because for one thing it takes up a tonne of real estate. And for those who are using Remora Pros don't normally have that large tanks to begin with.

Also, it does not skim from the surface as you would think. Take a look at the water around the surface skimmer while it's running. The water is dead stagnant. Why? Because there is a gap purposely made on the inside of the box by the output which draws in water from there. This is so that the pump does not run dry, but I found that 90% of the water was taken from there. I ended up plugging that gap and it skimmed great from the surface, but then you have a chance of your pump running dry, and you have to keep your water at the perfect level in order to skim the surface or else if the box is completely submerged then it is useless as well because it's not skimming from the surface.

Just too much hassle for what it was worth. Just my two bits :)

While I know the white screw allows access for cleaning, I believe that it also is there to increase/decrease flow/amount of bubble created.

You should try unscrewing it while it's running

If you have the slightest leak or if the screw is not in tightly, you will have water spraying your ceiling. Doesn't work that way ;)

im lukewarm on my ev-120 and 180. I run them together in a large sump on my 200 gal. the skimmate isnt bad on the 180 right now but the 120 has issues. the 180 is on a mag 9.5 and the 120 on a mag 7.. the 120 seems to be leaking air and water from the connection at the collection cup and skimmer. i hold the waste hose shut and the skimmer keeps bubbling which means air is escaping somewhere. Also, has anyone alse noticed cracks in the acrylic on the colection cups?? both my 180 and 120 have them

I have a Ev-180 htat I wasn't happy with till I upgraded pump. Now I control skimmate with air valve and am happy. I have a Euroreef CS5-2 right next to it ain the sump and I think it produces more consistantly than the Aqua. JMO.

now my 180 isnt producing skimmate. I have a mag 9.5 on it at full throttle. cleaned everything and as of this am... still nothing. my 120 was not producing, i messed with it a little and got it to produce. thing is these things are so fickle that water quality im sure suffers. I want my ev to work and Id like to say they are as advertised.. a great skimmer. but they arent

This thread seemed to start off good.. now all the trolls come out....

Did you all setup your skimmers correctly?

Water level? This plays an imprtant role in the skimmers performace. not just he pump.

I just purchased an EV-180 on Friday. Installed on Sunday. Took about 1-day to break in. Tuesday i have the collection cup filled to the drain spout, and all within 2 days of installation. Cleaned it last night, and this morning I have 1/4" of skimmate in the cup.

IMy old skimmer was pulling out tons of stuff also. THis is all while my refugium was online.

One thing is that the skimmer gets raw overflow water from my display. Is that how you are all running?

Not sure why people are having issues? It seems foolproof is setup correctly.

troll... kind of an uneducated labeling. seems like a lot of aqua c users have isues to me... HMMM

2 skimmers in a dedicated sump with raw overflow . both with larger pumps than recommended. 200 gal reef tank
180 with a mag 9.5
120 with a mag 7

air valve and gate valve full open, ball valve full open on the 180 and throttled back a little on 120
I have had aqua c skimmers for 2.5 yrs now and I am constantly adjusting, tinkering. when working at their best they wor fine but they are very very fickle. and I have read DOZENS of posts saying the same.
you must be lucky

I would be careful about using the term "uneducated", and not to use it so loosely....

Trolls? Possibly.... I guess... Just the way the thread started it was all good news... but who knows maybe i am lucky, or maybe it'll change in time...

So far so good. I agree with it being fickle... I just keep my hands out of the tank, and all is well....

not talking about you... your comment. (see my post) we arent trolls. just not satisfied with the skimmer performance. hands in tank is gonna happen and that affects ALL skimmers. Im talking about overall very very inconsistent performance. Ive had my 120 for 2.5 yrs. first with a mag 5.. worked good than went south in performance. upped to mag 7... worked great and since has gone south and is overall very inconsistent same pattern with the 180 . thats not plug and play. I didnt enter this post to rip, just comment. My skimmer doesnt have feelings. I tell it it sucks, it doesnt care. It seems that changing in time is the MO with my skimmer

as long as your happy with it thats all that counts, Overall it seems that Euro and ASM owners are more satisfied

My EV180 sucked for about 3 weeks but I have got it dialed in now and it's producing nasty, thick, disgusting skimmate. Mag 7 throttled back a bit running it; air and gate valve full open.

No worries... I know it was inteneded to be like that..

Like I said before hope the performance lasts.... and I HOPE it is not a premature opinion... (fingers crossed)

Ive got a remora pro on my 100 gal. Got the mag 3 with it and the skimmer box. I just want to say adjustment of the skimmer box sucks a fat one, as well as the excessive noise. It skims alright, but its loud, big , and the skimmer box has me all fired up.

I have had my Remora Pro for about 3 weeks now. It was used, so broken in, but I didn't initially get anything but lots of clear water. I got a surface skimmer box after week two and between that and tweaking level of the cup, I am getting tea colored skim.

I mainly got the surface skimmer box because the micro bubbles where driving me crazy! It did slow them down, but not enough for me, they seemed smaller, but still toooo many, and they gathered on the box, reflected the light and looked obnoxious. SOooo, I added some filter media (quilt batting, but I imagine anything would do) in where the sponge goes, on top of it. Flow is still great and no bubbles at all. AND, I am getting better skim, from pulling from the surface. Still tweaking it. But I have a very low load and this might be all I get till I add more fish. All in all I am happy with it.....BUT.....see note of caution below...

Note of caution: The mag 3 is only attached to the skimmer by the clear tube, directions call for clamp on pump side but no clamp on the skimmer side. Well, it worked it's way off, fell and tipped box and pump, spraying water up and out of my tank! Gotta be a way to fix THIS, and still be able to get it on and off for cleaning.

I recently bought an AquaC Remora. So far I'm not so impressed but I'm hoping that it will break in and start kicking butt soon.

The tank that it is on is established and doesn't really need it because of other filtration. However I am planning on using the Remora on a 20 gal. seahorse tank in my bedroom. I'm waiting for the 20 gal to get a little more established before I throw the remora on the back of it. Besides, I wanted to see how loud this skimmer is going to be before it's up and running in a room that I'm supposed to sleep in.

I actually came across this forum looking for ways to improve the skimmers performance as it seems that the 8 days that it has been on my other tank, it has pulled out little to nothing and is very noisy.

So far not so impressed, but I am hopeful and willing to give it time and a little of trial and error until I figure out what makes it tick.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.
