Mine is pulling like a champ now, I am loving this! Is noisier than I would like but it's in the kitchen so don't care too much. And my microbubbles are gone, took out the filter pad I stuck in there and still gone.......yaay.

OH THANK YOU THANK YOU Swashbuckler for sharing that little secret on this thread too! I was SO amazed at the difference, and Soooooo happy, that I nominated Dirtyreefer for president of the United States on the other thread! roflmao!! You both made my YEAR! I had a 18" rotating fan not ten feet from me all this time, and never heard it over the hsssssssss. Now it seems loud! Gotta go and do the happy dance now......

my ev120 sucks the big one.. I have it on a mag 7.5 when I do a water change or add food, it subsides its foaming and will not come back up...unless i increase the waterflow. then it goes nuts and would flood the house if i didnt watch it. Then I have to re adjust the ball valve to get it going again and the whole cycle resumes after the next feeding. on the othere hand, the ev180 it runs in tandem with is skimming great. (ps, anyone want to buy it)??

Just a thought on the remora pro, they reccomend a mag 3, why in the hell were you running a mag 7 on it, its no wonder you didn't like it, you were overpowering it. A mag 5 would be the most you should run, unless I'm totally mistaken???

Actually, AquaC considers the use of some bigger pumps in the Remora Pro and Urchin Pro.

Some quotes from Christine (by the way, great customer service):

"Some people do like to use more powerful pumps with the Remora Pro and this can lead to an increase in performance. We generally recommend using the Mag Drive 5 as an upgraded pump and this usually works really well for customers."

"Some customers do use the Mag Drive 7 with good results. This will not hurt the skimmer but you may get a great amount of watery foam which would be too much for the standard cup that comes with the skimmer to handle. We do offer a high rise collection cup for customers who use the Mag Drive 7 or an equally powerful pump."

"The total height of the high rise collection cup, including the riser tube, is 8" and the height of the cup itself is 5-3/4". There is a 30% increase when using the Mag Drive 7 compared to using the Mag Drive 5 and there is a 30% increase when using the Mag Drive 5 compared to using the Mag Drive 3. We can send you the high rise collection cup direct and it is $24.00 without the drain or $29.00 with the drain. "

"You can still use the high rise cup, just not the one with the drain fitting. The high rise collection cup is 2" taller than the standard cup so the total height would be 24" with the cup in the lowest position and 26" with the cup in the highest position."

I Must chime in here now...

I used to Own an Ev180 and since upgrading to a larger tank found that It was slightly under rated...
So I tried out a very Large 4' Dual beckett skimmer... Works great but never pulled anything out like the Ev series skimmer did...
I got a chance to borrow a very nice Deltec 1003 skimmer and toss it on my tank... Extremely nice skimmer... Pulls out some really nasty stuff... I had been debating going with one of the Larger German skimmers so It was nice to get to test drive one... All In all I think the price needs to severly drop on the Deltecs before purchasing one... This 1003 skims but IMO my old EV180 pulled out better junk than this deltec does...

I ended up putting in an Order for An Ev400 that is due to Arrive possibly this week if not the beginning of next week... Out of all the skimmers that I have used it Seems as though the AquaC ev series skimmers seem to the the Easiest and best skimmer out there... Plus they dont cost nearly as much as the Er or Deltec skimmers...

Even though my old Ev180 was under rated for my 224g tank I still regret selling the dang thing and going with a beckett... Cant wait to get a good skimmer back on my tank... You just cant go wrong with an AquaC skimmer...

Also wanted to make clear.. I am not bashing Deltec.. Its a sweet skimmer... Pulls some Extremely good stinky stuff however Its also a 4000.00 skimmer.. My friend was able to pick it up used for around 1500.00 shipped. It would be very worth the $1500 but not the 4k..

my ev 180 was good... pulled about a cup a week. my new deltec pulls about a cup .... A DAY!! and the crap is 10x stinkier and nastier. EV is good for the money but there is absolutely no comparison

I dont know why some people are so down on the remora skimmers, IMO and experaince they are the best HOB around hands down. Alot of HOB skimmers are freaking ugly in a tank which doesnt have a sump (coralifesuperskimmer, bakpak...) I have the pre-skimmer on my remora pro, sure its kinda big but doesnt look that bad in a 80g, I have xenia and GSP growing on it so it actualy looks kinda good!

I started with a remora pro with a mag3, it worked pretty good, better than what I have seen on bakpaks. I decied to try out a mag7 on it. WOW the thing pulls out tons of junk, I have been running it for a year and half now. Its super easy to clean and adjust, the skimate is extremely vile and thick muddy noxious goo. Its caked in goo in about 3 days from cleaning. I run it on a moderatly stocked 80g and 55g fuge.

My only gripe is that its a pain in the but to adjust the preskimmer, but I would like to see ANY hob skimmer that isnt a PITA to adjust due to riseing and falling water levels.

I got a remora for my 50g dwarf lion tank, it didnt do crap till I put a mag3 on it, now its skims like crazy, alittle too wet, I think a taller collection cup is needed, but wow it really pulls out some stinky lionfish crap!

So to all you how dont like the remora, find me a better HOB skimmer that doesnt make your tank look freaking ugly!!!

just bought a ev 120 for a 58 gallon tank. Skimmate looks like expresso. Tank is 2 weeks old. Getting a cup every 2 days.

I only had a mag seven and didnt want to spend the extra for the reccomended mag 5 so I throttled back my mag 7 . I dont know how people are using mag 7 s on this skimmer because I couldnt keep my water level down. I do have my tank return and skimmer pump in a bucket in the sump(see thread on improving skimmer efficiency100%) which is something I think can improve all skimmers.

I would have to say im pleased with mine. The only skimmer I have to compare it to is a berlin which it is far better than

For what it's worth, as of the end of September 2005 I've had an AquaC EV-150 on my reef for five years. I loved it when I first hooked it up, and I still love it today. It does what it's supposed to do with a minimum of fuss.

In my experiences, two key factors in getting and keeping an AquaC performing are (If it's in your sump) to keep the water level constant, and to keep it cleaned. As long as those two issues are covered, mine produces plenty of thick, nasty skimmate...

My Remora Pro never worked good. Just weak Iced tea colored water. Never could get it to pull out anything substantial. I originally got it to hang on the tank, but couldn't use it that way because I could not open the canopy with it on (DOH!). I used it in sump ala Urchin first with Mag3, then Mag5. Always fiddling with cup height, never worked good. I went to an ASM G2 and holy cr@p, what a difference! Pulls out stuff like no tomorrow. Set it and forget it. I never mess with the adjustments. No more hissing sound like the Remora either. I think the needlewheel design is a whole lot beter than the spray injection of the Aqua-C skimmers.

Your point about the look is valid. The CSS is a better skimmer, but it looks like it came from Toys-R-Us. I wouldn't be happy with the look of it either if I had to run HOB. There are better skimmers that are not ugly, but it will cost you (Deltec).

You can replace the Mag7 impeller with a Mag5 impeller and turn the 7 into a 5.

I got an aqua c urchin to replace a seaclone on my 60 gallon tank. I had really high hopes after reading about the urchin and remoras. However, since January, I have had only intermittent luck. At first it pulled less than the seaclone, even after a month. THen I unscrewed the white plug and brushed it out and washed the whole thing in warm water again. It has worked better, now I am up to a cup full of stuff a week, but it is very weak green tea colored. Just yesterday the skimmer when nuts, pulling out a cup an hour! I raised the cup all the way and it calmed down, but I am still not real impressed with the amount and color of the gunk it pulls out.

I have an EV 400 and could not be happier. I have owned an ASM, and an ATI (from germany) and neither compared with the Aqua C. I wouldn't trade it for anything except for an EV 1000. Hmmm I'll have to see if it will fit.

I replaced my ASM G3 with an Aqua C EV-400. Here are the ORP readings I recorded:

ASM G3 (with Sedra ~500gph pump): 340-360mV
Aqua C (with Mag 2400 pump, seems like too much pump): 320-340mV

Both units are running 50 mg/hr O3. Both produce slightly tan ozonized wet skimmate. The tank is a 240g with 11 fish and soft/lps corals.

How is this possible? MarineDepot packaged the EV-400 with a Mag 2400 pump (their recommened pump) with is about 5x stronger than the Sedra on the G3. The ASM is rated for a maximum tank size of 240g and the EV-400 is 400g. I don't get it.

Ideas?

That is my experience as well. The needle-wheels consistently out skim the injection skimmers with far less power and adjustment.
