Aquacontroller Jr

Evening fellow reefers. I am considering the purchase of the Jr but wanted to ask some questions first.

Does anyone have experience with using this controller along with the DC8 on Coralvue ballasts? I am running (2) 250w single ended on the HQI ballast from coralvue. I know the competitor to this is not compatible with the coralvue. Any help in that area is appreciated.

What is the overall consensus of this unit. Like/dislike?

Thanks for any and all info you can share with me.

Todd,

This thread shows a bit about user experience :

I personally like my AC Jr, but unfortunately do not know about it's compatibilty with your ballast. I would assume the compatibility has to do with the DC8 load/amp capacity ? It is rated for 6 amps continuous, but I do not know what it's peak load or peak time ratings are. Curt from Neptune will be along soon enough to answer that question for ya.

But if it is compatible, then I would go for it :)

Thanks Tom. I'll check out that thread. I did call Neptune and they said they were not aware of any problems , but suggested I post here to see.I found out last night that A fellow reefer switched from a reefkeeper to the Jr and is using coralvue ballasts with no problems. It looks like I will be ordering myself a Jr. this week.

Thanks,

Todd

I have been doing some more reading on the Neptune Controllers. It seems the Jr. or any of the models will handle everything I need it for and work with my equipment. Does anyone know if there is a compatability issue with my equipment, will Neptune allow a return of the unit? I know this may be out of the question, but I have to ask. As a business owner and a potential customer, this is important for most of us.

Thanks,

Todd

We allow for return of equipment purchased directly from us (30 days). If you purchase from one of our resellers then you must abide by their return policy.

Thank you for the quick reply Curt. It is greatly appreciated.

Do I need to worry about a specific distance from controller to the Coralvue Ballasts? They are electronic ballasts if that makes a difference?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Todd

I don't know of any problems with Coralvue ballasts, but it probably a good a idea to separate the probes, controller, and DCX boxes a foot or two away from electronic ballasts.

Curt

Evening Curt. I believe my wife and I have decided on a controller after much debate and pros/cons of the individual models.

How quickly can we get the unit shipped to IL? Zip code 60563? I would like to have it for this weekend as I am swapping out my new sump I made and redoing some things on the tank. Having the controller and doing this all the same day would help greatly.

Please let me know at your earliest.

Thank you,

Todd

why not use the group buy from Premium Aquatics? they are located in Indiania so you should have it quickly.

A few reasons Mattseattle.

1) Curt has been more than helpful on the forum with quick replies to me and many others.

2) I have also had each email answered by Curt within a few hours.

3) Curt took the time and the investment in making a phone call to me last night to answer a few more questions for me. That phone call was made without a request by me may I add.

That is what I call Oustanding Customer Service. For those reasons alone, I will make the purchase directly through Neptune. The money is not the issue for me. The issue is the support I recieved and will continue to recieve. I can not say that about Premium Aquatics.

Also noted....

If you look at that group buy, the DC8 is being held for 2-4weeks. Not to mention that there is no guarantee when the controller will ship as there needs to be 7 orders placed before anything ships.

This confirms the plan to buy direct.

I do appreciate the help with that and for looking out for a fellow reefer.

:)

Thanks,

Todd

I think that they have been getting a lot of orders so I doubt you will have to wait for 7, also when I ordered mine it said that the dc8 was a 4 week wait and it was shipped with my controller right away. So, I would check with Premium Aquatics.

Also remember just because you would be buying it from Premium Aquatics doesn't mean that Netune does not get anything from it. They are the manufactures Premium Aquatics is just the middle man...

Rich,

Thank you for your input. I understand how the food chain works believe me. As a business owner, I have that structure as well.

My reasons to deal with the manufacture directly, stem from being a business owner myself and always attempting to deal direct with the manufacturer. Not to mention that Curt has been a great help to me and timely in all if his correspondence with me.

I have ordered the unit through Curt this afternoon, as he called me to answer some more questions and assured me that I would get the unit on Friday of this week.

Thank you all for your help. I will keep you posted on how it pans out.
