Aquacontroller users beware ... Ebay saved the day!

Hi guys,

Just got back from a 3 week honeymoon ... and yes Murphy's law paid me a visit.

While away the temperature probe on my AC Jr. went crazy showing a temp of 102 degrees. Needless to say, my lights and heaters would not come on due to the programming.

Thankfully, after two days, my pet sitter contacted Emerald Bay and Sean came over to save my tank. He disconnected the lights from the DC8 so the pet sitter could turn them on/off manually. The temperature bounced up and down a bit, but not too bad.

Thankfully, everything was ok, and actually my corals showed some pretty drastic growth. Maybe this was due to the fact that my photoperiod increased to 12 hours, instead of my usual 8.

Overall i am thankful that the tank survived 3 weeks on its own. No loss and no floods ... I'll take it!

After doing some research i found many posts of the temperature probe going crazy on the controllers. So what i would do if you run a controller is add additional logic, just in case. For instance: If Temp > 90 CHILLER OFF just in case. Thankfully i do not run a chiller, because it would have ran non-stop.

I want to take this opportunity to Thank Sean and Emerald Bay. If it were not for him, I would have lost all my corals. Your service and way of doing business is something you do not find very often these days. THANK YOU, I OWE YOU BIG TIME!

Thanks for the heads up on this. I'm curious if there is a fix for the problem with your ACjr. or how you're dealing with that?

Looks like you dodged a bullet, which is pretty awesome.

Your situation sounds like a really good reason to get e-mail alerts and to put a temperature alarm on (I'm sure your tank watcher wouldn't have left it go if an alarm was on and obviously you could have contacted someone). I'm planning on adding both of these (especially after reading this) as I finalize my set-up. I'm actually really surprised that all controllers don't have alarms built into them.

Hey Brian!

I have another temp probe in order and it should arrive today.

unfortunately I have the base AC Jr. without serial port and i cannot run email alerts or monitor via web. To be honest i dont think it would have done much good in Europe and the new bride would have been pretty ****ed if i were checking email at all times, which i would have done :) We are not all as lucky to have a wife that shares the addiction :)

If i had to do it all over again, i would have splurged on an upgraded model for the extra features you stated.

By the way ... the cap and other frags i got from you a while back are doing AMAZING!

ahhhh ... so much to learn :)

Glad to hear the corals are doing well.

And of course you aren't checking for a "surprise GIFT" because then you'd have to actually buy one... you're checking on a "surprise."

Where all did you go on the trip?

LOL ...

We went to:

Venice, Florence, Chianti, Naples, Rome, Rhodes, Athens, Olympia, Izmir and Instanbul... It was an AMAZING experience. I'm glad to be home though!

Unfortunately, i did not run into any LFS in italy.

Wow, man... thats pretty crazy.

Makes me want to get mine hooked up to my internet ASAP so it can send me text messages!

Brandon
