Aquacultured 10 Pack Question (SE-46401 )

I'm was planning on buying the Aquacultured 10 Pack (SE-46401) on LiveAquaria.Com but wanted to see what corals I might get in advance. I made a call to the 800 number but didn't get to the detail that I hoped. I have purchased several time from Dr Fosters and Smith but never any of the corals. Is it possible that I might be able to have a "preferred list" that I send to someone or know what corals are normally sent.

Any info I could get would be awesone ... thanks in advance

Thank you for your post. We apologize that the information given was not sufficient. As this is an assorted pack, the selection of corals included will generally depend on what stock we have available. If you would like, you may suggest the type of corals you wish to receive, though this would not be a guarantee. While the exact species sent would be of a random assortment, you may request their genus (Acropora, Montipora, etc.). To do this, you may either request this to the agent you speak with over the phone, or, if you prefer an Internet order, please make a note in the “Notes For This Order” box during checkout.

I will do that. Just so I can get an idea of what is in the pack, is there anyway that you can post what was in the last pack or two that you sent to someone or if preferred email to me? The other option is that I could call ... I would just need to know who to ask for.

Thank you for your reply. The coral packs may contain Acropora, Montipora, Stylophora, and Pocillopora species. If you call LiveAquaria at 1-800-334-3699, an agent will be able to add notes to your order with your requests. However, the agent would not be able to tell you exactly what shipped with the last order as that information is not recorded for agent purposes.

I have not taken time to get you all feedback on the order that you helped me with. We'll, I want to tank you all very much for some GREAT corals and the best service that I have had with any online purchase related to my tank.

Everything was packaged well, timely and looked great.

I do have some questions about where to best place some of these corals long term in my setup. I have a 72", 125 gallon tank with a 30g refuge. My light is the Coralife aqualight pro with 3 150W MH's (standard coralife 10K) and 4 96W Actinics. I can elabotate as needed. With that light, about where in the tank should each of my corals be? For example, to maintain the pink in the Solomon Salmon Digitata Coral. The website says high / hed / low but that is kind of a relative thing because there are so many setups. Thanks for any help and I can email more specific pics as needed.

Thank you for your post. We don’t have a definite dollar amount of savings between a pack purchased and individual items. This is because the corals used for our packs are not of the exact same size as those purchased individually. In general the savings are considerable since we are able to fill our packs with items that are in abundance at the time of the order. This allows us to pass on savings to you.

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify ... your placement recommendations are with my lighting (your best guess)... right?

The reason I ask is that many people have 250W halides and can deliver a lot more light. I have read a reasonable amount on this and other websites about lighting PAR. Of course, my 150's generally deliver lower PAR values than 250's.

In your experience, how will the lower PAR of my lights impact placement in my tank? I don't have a PAR meter but Sanjays website shows testing data on different bulbs that he has done.

At the end of the day, all I can control right now is photo-period and placement in the tank. So, when your website says to place "mid-high" ... is that assuming a specific photo-period and lighting setup? Today I run the halides about 10 hours and the actinics 12 hours. Is is also assuming placement directly under the lights or within several inches of directly below?

Last question ... how long should I expect that I need before I can tell if a coral needs more or less light? For example, I have the Solomon Salmon Digitata Coral and the Indigo Digitata Coral pretty high in the tank now. The Salmon Digitata looks somewhat peachy with the top 1/3 being pretty pink. (Your recommendation is to move them down and I will) Is this just a matter of acclimating and then it will become more pink? On the Indigo Digitata, it's fairly bland and definitely not very blue now. Is it possible it's too high and therefore lightening up? Should I leave them for a month and re-assess at that time. Just looking for some guidelines.

I know I have a lot of questions but I want to get the best color and more importantly understand placement in my tank.

Hopefully you are able to speak to each of my questions. If you have a direct number I would be happy to call as it might be quicker...

I passed along my preferred corals and they explained that they could not committ to anything but would do their best. My experience is that no matter what you get, you will be happy. I think that when you add service, price, quality, the variety and the guarantee together that you cannot get a better deal.

Thank you for your post. Our placement recommendations on this thread were based on your tank’s specifications, including the estimated PAR of your lighting. (This takes into account only the vertical distances, not horizontal placement of the coral.) However, our website’s placement recommendations are not based on a particular lighting setup but on general lighting needs. In general, we recommend eight to ten hours for a photoperiod. When acclimating corals, it is important to have the lights off for the first day, then on for gradually increasing periods on subsequent days to avoid overexposure and bleaching. If you have done this, then there would not be a particular time period that we would recommend for moving corals. However, it can take anywhere from four weeks to several months for a coral to reach its proper coloration in your aquarium. It may be best to leave them where they are for now and change them if their coloration does not improve in time. If you would like, you may call 1-800-334-3699 and ask for our Technical Support department for further information.
