Aquaculturing Tridacna Clams

Since the search function is down.... anyone have any good links to breeding clams in captivity. I see aquacultured clams for sale everywhere i go and i'd like to read a bit about it. thanks in advance.

WOW, that surprises me! There is not that many cultured clams coming in these days. :( Some of the clam farms have gone under due to losing grants or such. Some refer to their clams as being cultured but indeed are not. I know of a few overseas operations that collect the clams in the wild and raise them in lagoons and call them cultured, no so IMO.

Will look through my archives and provide you with some links. Raising larval in a captive system is most likely not going to happen, IME.
 
Well perhaps the 'aquacultured clams' i am seeing are in fact just 'tank raised from juv wild caught clams' and not true captive bred. for example, if you look at liveaquaria's clams, they all say aquacultured. who knows...
 
Tagging along, Barry thanks for the info. By the way, I too have seen a big increase in clams being sold as cultured- Just bought 2 max for $80- one power blue and one gold (LFS).
 
Charlie, I just say it like it is. :) No need to misrepresent things if you know what I mean.

If anything, there is less cultured clams coming in. The farms can not keep us with supply and demand.
