Aqualife

I was in aqualife today and they have a lot of nice stuff in. Lots of acro colonies and stuff, and a bunch of sweet clams. They're trans-shipping now, so things might take a little while to color up/ fish get healthy. I got a watermelon chalice on hold till tomorrow. If I can't convince my wife to let me buy it someone in the club should. It's not quite a tyree watermelon, but looks close. 6-7" across and the lady told me $39.99.

Really? My searches pointed me at SPS. Let me check later today to see if it's till there. could I frag this thing?

OH SniperSPS's LPS Tyree water....

yeah it's a hard coral and probably couldn't do it with an exacto...
Is this a really good price for a coral like this? What do typical frags go for?

It all depends. A true LE with lineage is expensive. They are usually different morphs with "special" characteristics.

When you buy a piece that is transhipped, they will change in captivity. That is what makes them cool.

so basically if it changes in my tank and looks REALLY good then it will sell for a lot? Aqualife has MH's as far as I know and the sites I've read say they do better in lower lighting like PC... which is what I have

I would actually rather use an exacto opposed to a dremel. Even a razor blade. Unless it's a huge established colony the skeleton wont be that thick or dense.

To answer your other question, 1-2" frags usually go for 40$, so ya, it's a deal. But I wouldnt get it to make money though as you'll probably be disapointed. And you wont be an RC member for too long if you buy something, cut it up and come here and sell it off. We've lost quite a few that way... Not implying that you would, just a word of caution.

In my experience, the skelaton on a colony is too hard for a blade. I have used a dremmel before many times and that is the best way to get it done. Some people use a chizel, but too each their own.

BTW, it was a nice piece. It was not $40 and it was not watermelonish. I just got back.

I stopped by Aqualife today too. Agreed, lots of nice stuff, lots of croceas and derasas too. They also had a few BIG gigas clams, like 8-12"ers. If I didn't already have two gigas's in my tank, I'd of bought one...
