aqualifter with or without suction prefilter

I am trying to get my aqualifter to auto-top off my tank and it will not stay on for longer than 1 min before shutting off. I do not have the prefilter and didnt even know it existed before about 30 min ago. Is it really necessary for this to work properly, and have I ruined the pump running it w/out for about 3 weeks?

I have used mine both ways I took the prefilter off because it was leaking and it took me a week to figure out. I am just running RO through it so there should not be a problem. When they start to slow down I run vinegar through them to keep them clean.

if the auto lifter runs an hour how much output do you get in gallons? I too am thinking of running mine off the RO bucket.

The pre-filter is so cheap that I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. It prevents particles and stuff from clogging the pump, and should extend pump life. Not having one for 3 weeks shouldn't be a problem, though, with clean RO/DI water in your ATO.

It all depends on the head height. The flow drops off very quickly as the outlet is raised. Also be careful because they will siphon if the outlet to the sump is below the water surface level of the storage container.
