AquaMaxx vs Vertex Omega

I am getting ready to upgrade my in-sump skimmer from the reef octopus 110int to something bigger and better. I have found the Aquamaxx ConeS Q-2 and the Vertex Omega 130 to be the leading runners for my needs. Price is pretty close so that won't sway me but I was looking for any advice from owners of either brand that I should pick. I like the Vertex and the reviews are pretty decent but the Aquamaxx is just as stout. If you had a choice, which would you choose?

Any help is appreciated!

I don't have experience with Vertex, I know they have a good reputation on a lot of forums. I just installed an aquamaxx coneS co-3 on my 200 gallon tank last week and am super impressed with it! Build quality is good, it started skimming day 1, the pump is not too loud, it's easy t adjust and stays stable, and the price point is low compared to other skinmers of like qualities. Oh yea it has a handle on the cup and the little blue bubble diffusers look cool too. Haha! You would probably be satisfied with either, but after all my research and now using for over a week, I'm extremely pleased with the Aquamaxx.

No experience on either model/brand, but hear some bad experience with aquamaxx.

Have you look into the nyos skimmers? Im currently running one and had installed a few of them with great success. Price is a bit high, but very efficient and quiet. Worth it, imo.

I read that Aquamaxx had some issues with qa last year but they got the plate issue squared away so that shouldn't haunt me if I go that route.

I watched nyos come out last year and I almost dropped some cash on one of their skimmers but the price was a tad high at the time so I stuck with RO. But now as my bioload picks up I need something a little more in the guts department.

First time trying to upload a pic so I'm sure I messed up, but this is a picture of my aquamaxx co-3 12 hours after I installed it on my 300 gallon system. My tank is only a couple months old with just a few fish, so I was pretty impressed with what it pulled out right out of the box.

I went with the Q-2 and I am very happy. After a nice long vinegar bath and wash down I dropped it into the sump and didn't have any bubbles in the cone. I took off the venture and the piece where the hose connects was clogged with some glue. I used a pick and cleared it and was up and running in now time. After 48 hours of use it is producing skimmate and I am happy.
