Aquanotes and AC3 question

Question about AC3 and Aquanotes. I just installed my new AC3 controller a few days ago. It is connected through the ethernet cable to my dsl modem/router. All is good, I can access through my computer and with a bunch of fiddling with the router/modem I have connection outside my network to the controller.:D
Here comes the problem, I loaded aquanotes and cannot get the software to operate with the controller. May be a dumb question but is the serial cable required for the software to work with the AC3?

Go to Database > Tank Database and then Configuration Tab.

Key in the IP address of the controller (depending on your network, 192.168.XXX.XXX), your username and password. That should allow you to connect to the ACIII.

Make sure you also key in the correct serial number of the controller unit.

HTH,

Carlos

My question still is do I need the serial cable to access through aquanotes?
I have an ethernet cable attached and I'm able to access through I.E and also any outside computer. I still can't access through aquanotes. I've tried what you instructed but all I get is another box coming up asking for data source. I have no idea what this is.
Any help appreciated.
George.

No need for the serial. The ethernet cable is replacing the slow and old serial connection.

Check your Site Database and make sure that you have "Direct Connection" selected. Some people change that to TCP/IP and it causes problem as it is not the correct setting.

Also, make sure that the computer with Aquanotes is in the same network settings as the aquacontroller. To make sure, try to ping the controller from the Aquanotes computer and make sure you have a good connection. If not, then you know the problem is not aquanotes but your connection.

Im having trouble accessing through aquanotes as well. I have checked and re-checked the settings with no kuck.

I have the ACIII Pro, and AQNotes 3.1

I am able to ping the ACIII and access it with a browser but cannot access with aquanotes.

I am using a newer linksys router, and am ready to jump out the window. :)

Sent an email to neptune, any help would be appreciated.

Jnfallon: I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I have no problem accessing controller with my browser and no problem with access with a outside computer.
Loading aquanotes went ok til the end and a small box came up and said something about a data file. Two choices cancel or retry.
I hit retry and the installation finished. The problem is when I bring up aquanotes at times I get another box looking for data source. I unloaded the software which didn't go all too well. Almost all the files being deleted were being used by another program. I just said no to all. Anyways I reloaded and with a lot of drag time was able to navigate through the data fields to get the controller serial number in. I was able to get data downloaded from the controller but was unable to get status. After numerous attemps to try and figure it out I ended up with the same pop-up screen looking for data source. When you closed that screen the whole program would shut down. At times the program would lock up and I would try to control alt delete and the end task would show two programs of aquanotes running. I'm totally confused. When I get off work today I'll try some more attemps to get the software to run properly.
I tried last night to call the support number but everyone must have started their weekend a little early. Don't blame them there.

You also need to go to Active Site and make sure that is set to 'direct to PC'. Go to Site Database and select 'direct connection'. Then go to tank database>config. Under interface select TCP (Aqua 3), under TCP/IP configuration enter the IP address you set into the AC3 using the menu, and username (default is 'admin') and password (default is '1234').

PM me if you need more help,

Mike

Mike, Thanks. Have done all that, like 5 times, and checked to make sure on the ACII etc, but no luck.

I am using a linksys router, is it possible it is a firewall issue?

I also have norton internet security, but disabled that w/ no luck.

Frustrated.

Give Curt a call. He will need your Aquanotes 12 digit code, but I guarantee he will have you up and running in no time.

Hey Mike:
With all the problems I'm having with the operation of aquanotes, do you think there would be issues with loading the software on my other computer that is also part of the network. Trying this is my only resolve to see if I'm having a conflict with programs with the first computer.

Lageo,

I seem to recall having trouble installing Aquanotes as well, it hung up on the first install I believe. I didn't remove, just did a reinstall over the top and said yes to overwrite all files. Everything went fine from there.

Mike,
Well got home and tried different things to get the software working. No luck.
So I installed the aquanotes on the wife's computer (which is also on the home network) we go through a 2wire home portal. TA DA installation went without a hitch. I did the configuration changing to TCP/IP instead of direct connect because controller and both computers do go through a router/dsl modem. Just like downtown every thing operational. Now I know it's not software or configuration but something is not loading right on my computer.
I guess I'll let the wife watch the conditions. Oh that's right the fun of this hobby is to actually look at the tank LOL
Thanks for the replies Mike
