Aquaph8's 225 Build

I added the rest of the sand today. Its a little cloudy but its clearing up really fast. I turned the pumps down for now until everything settles in. Ill post a new pic when it clears up a bit more

too late now, but for others reading this, try reefflakes. Cleanest sand ever. Period.
.
Mike, are you talking about the Tropic Eden stuff? I tried but at the time I ordered the sand it was all sold out. But yeah, sea flor is pretty dirty. It has all kinds of little stick things in it too. I bet I rinsed it 30 times and the water still looked like milk.

Everything cleared up pretty fast. Here's a couple pics with sand. Forgive me for my picture taking skills or lack of.

Dude , the front to back Depth of this tank looks sick!! This is going to be some tank when it grows out....Loving the aquascape!

Hey Brett, nice to see that you have a build thread up. Probably would have found it earlier but I've not been on RC much lately. Anyway great progress, love the setup and the things you've done. Tagging along

Man its so hard to show how it really looks in pics cause the front on FTS makes it look like its all one rock structure. Having some negative space was really important to me on this tank cause some of my fish always seemed crowded in the old tank. I also threw the clowns and their nem all the way to the right side and around the corner this time cause they are some fin nipping little monsters. Everybody seems really happy in the new tank so far and even the more timid fish are coming out of the rocks more. My tank is now monti free and I think Im alright with it. Hopefully the nudi's are a thing of the past. So far with this tank Ive lost all interest in corals but Im sure its just temporary until I get used to the QT procedure with them. I did purchase a few new fish though, Ill share details later. Thanks for the nice comments Jonathan.

Welcome aboard Dan and HAPPY FRIDAY. Its really great to have you along, your tank has always been a real inspiration to me. I've been missing the weekly happy Friday pics and updates on your thread. Looking forward to seeing your tank up and running again. Thanks for all the nice comments.

Aquascape looks brilliant.
Yes that depth is difficult to capture on camera, but the side shot does gives us a sense how uv planned it out.
Are ya doing any dosing currently?
Any pointers on balling?

Hope ya saw my thread? Made the skimmer choice I went for the Bubble King.
Iv posted my first ever video on my www :strange:

What's ur livestock(fishes) plan?

Looking really good Brett, very nice rock placement, it looks very well balanced.

Thanks man.

I like the rock work in the tank! I'll be watching for more pictures as the tank matures!

Stay tuned and welcome aboard marc. Thanks for the nice comments.

Thanks buddy. Im normally a vodka doser but Ive takin a break at this point and will keep an eye on things while the new take matures. Maybe as bioloads increase I may start it back up slowly but right now everything is good. All Im dosing right now is BRS Cal, Alk and Mag. All dosing is manual at this point but as $$$ and my boss allows (WIFE) I hope to set up some dosers. As far as fish go Im a sucker for wrasses, angels, butterflies and anthias. Number one on my wish list is a Chelmon muelleri but I can never fine one. Ive been searching for a couple years. I do have a few new fish in QT, wish me luck.

The Purple Queen Anthias are eating frozen baby brine so far really great. I hope to get them to step up to eating some larger brine before they will come out of QT. They are truley planktivores in the way they eat. The food almost has to float into their mouths. I imagine they will be in my QT for quite some time but we will see I guess.

Tank looks great Brett. I love the purple anthias...best of luck with them !

Thanks gimmito, these three eat really good but only the really tiny stuff. I thought about putting something on a drip so they can eat all day. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I plan on having various schools of anthias in my 450. I was thinking of doing the mini fridge w/a 3 port doser for various types of small live foods. One of my reef club members Gresham works for Reed Mariculture. He mentioned they are coming out w/a new product specifically for anthias and small particle eating fish.

That sounds cool, keep me updated on that, will ya? These 3 are eating so well in QT but they eat really slow compared to other fish. The particles their eating are small enough that there wouldn't be a lot of competition cause the other fish go for the big stuff but Im afraid the food will be washed away too fast in the display. They dont seem to be real shy either, which is good. I have no doubts that I could sustain them in a dedicated species tank but Im really worried about how they will do in the display at this point.

Brett my Bartlett's scarf down anything from adult brine to mysis, Ocean Nutrition Formula 2, Elos SVM2 and Dainichi baby marine pellets like no nobody's business as if the Tangs don't even exist.
They also go nuts for cyclopeeze!

Will do. Do you fresh water dip or do hypo salinity ? Any medication ?

Depends on the fish. Some I will treat with cupramine and Prazi and some just prazi. My biggest goal is getting them nice and fat before they go into the display.
