Aquapod compartments

Hi,

Received an Aquapod 12g for xmas from the wife (shes kicking herself now)

I have been cycling my aquapod since Dec 26th or so, it will be a mantis/reef tank.
Currently
10 hermits
10 turbo snails
10 misc snails
2 emerald crabs
1 sand flea
1 hitchhiker tiny soft crab that waves its hand in the water to eat (/shrug)
1 pencil urchin
1 damsel

My question is, should I ditch/upgrade any of the stock filtering system?
I plan to do ~2.5g water change once a month

Should I get rid of the carbon/ceramic combo and only have live rock rubble (nothing bigger then 1"x1") in that compartment?

You have a lot going on in there for a 12 gal tank. Change the carbon once a month or switch to purigen, which can be regenerated. I would do 1 gal water changes once a week.

I was under the impression hermits/snails/crabs are low bioload?

When I get my mantis only about 4 of those turbo snails are big enough to survive and about 5 hermits and both emeralds, everything else will most likely become food
