Aquapod with 70w MH...acros?

Hi all...just wondering if anyone is having luck with acros under the 70w MH. Also, are you maintaining vivid colors? I want to start one up with mostly Lokani, Teraki, Chips, etc...lots of blues and would like to stick with the 70 for heat issues over the 150. Just not sure if that would sustain the deep colors. How deep is the Aquapod? If its taller than 12" a 70W isn't enough.

I'm thinking about putting all the acros on the top areas and then other corals below. I wouldn't have thought 70 W would be enough, but I"ve never tried it either. I am setting up a small display with some more unique corals and my snowflake clowns. I just don't want the heat issues if I can avoid them.

I think it might not be enough for Acros. Maybe some caps toward the tops would be okay. I think the 70 is mainly for LPS, softies, and zoos. Later Ryan

yeah i'd do the 150. I am going for the 150 sunpod on my 8 gallon. Should be good for almost all corals...

Yes, I would suggest the 150watt too. As the 70watt would not be as strong.

U will boil the water in an 8g with a 150w de bulb.

Thanks all...figured as much. Just thought I would ask as I have a pair of snowflakes going in and want to avoid heat issues. I've had enough of them in the 12 with the pc lights...have had to mod it out extensively to keep the temps around 80...can imagine what I'll have to do to this one!

with a difference of about $20 between the 70 and 150? no brainer

It wasn't the price difference...it was the heat issue. Those nano's heat up a lot and sps like cooler temps to do best. I like to keep my sps tanks at 78 which I'm sure will require a chiller on a 24 with 150 HQI. If a 70 would have given me enough light I would have preferred to not have another chiller to deal with.

How long will your light cycle be, I dont feel a ton of heat coming off the fixture coming from the lamp itself, there are internal fans that cool the ballast, the fan seems to do a good job of drawing heat out of the entire fixture, it doesn't throw off heat like my 250s !
