Aquarium Chiller

I need a aquarium chiller. My tank has been getting up to 86 degrees here recently. I got the tank in November and never had a problem with temp fluctuation. The person I bought it from said he had no problem during the summer with temperature. Well it's just now spring, and I find that hard to believe. Anyways, I have a 125 gallon reef. And, would like to know what the best chiller is for the dollar. I can't spend alot of money. And I need one soon. What would be a good website that has the lowest price.? Thanks

my only advice is to pay for a larger one, don't skimp on size because you'll end up paying for it in your electric bills!! the larger the chiller, the less it needs to work.

if you can't spend a lot of money, then a chillers not for you. chillers cost a lot, and cost a lot to run. I would suggest trying out fans first, they actually do a lot!!! fans can lower temp down a few degrees.

The other poster is right, fans will do a lot. In conjunction with the fans, I also use a controller. I have the controller turn the fans on, and turn of non-essential pumps and lighting as the temp rises. I was able to keep my tank (65g) within acceptable ranges this way.

I have not tried it on my new larger tank (220g) , but only because I haven't hit the summer heat yet. But I plan to deal with it in a similar fashion.

I use the Arctica DBA-150 on my 150gallon. Works great. Remember that not only do you have the cost of the chiller, but a big pump to move the required flow through the chiller so that it operates properly.
