Aquarium Controllers

So I'm thinking of getting the aquacontroller jr. for my 39g. What's everyones opinion on this controller? pros/cons is there a better controller for the money? Any info would be great, thanks!

Thanks for the link, and can i ask why this causes drama? I have a nano that probably wont change for awhile, It's hard to tell what I'd want in the future other than the basics : /

there is a lot of infomation and comparisions on each controller on RC. you just need to search when that function actually works. I myself have an AC3 and i absolutely love it!

Yeah I actually have been comparing a lot, but being newer into this hobby makes it hard to understand what some of the functions actually mean lol... I mean I've read a lot and I know a decent amount, but I havn't been into the more advanced parts of the hobby, for example sps corals, clams, etc. and I don't know a lot about all of the more advanced equipment... basically I lack experience which makes it hard to know what I'll want down the road.

Well the AC3 is well priced and has much of the same functions that most other controllers have, It does connect to the internet which makes programming and tweaking pumps especially easier. I highly recommend the AC3. Myself and many other on RC love and would buy another unit. im actually trying to buy another one in the classifieds as we speak.

IMO, i would get as good a product as i could afford. If you stay in this hobby for any length of time, you'll be upgrading...save yourself some money in the long run and get the good stuff!

im not exactly sure what you are implying with that post but the AC3 is a great controller especially if you pair it with the aquasurf, or I/O breakout box. the possibilities are endless. Feel free to check out my build thread by clicking the red house. you may find some useful info.

Thanks i was looking for that link to post here.. Thanks for chiming in, it was taking too long to find it.

Personally, I would recommend you know what you want before you buy one. :)

There are many GREAT controllers on the market, but which one you want to buy will depend on what you need and what you want.

If you want just a basic, no-frills but still capable controller for now, check out the AC Jr. as well as the ReefKeeper Lite. :)

I'm not sure if you were refering to my post or not but i wasn't implying anything. I love The Aquacontroller's... especially the AC3. As a matter of fact, i was thinking of selling my ACII so i can get the new AC" Apex" .
I was merely stating that he should purchase a higher end controller, if he could afford it, or even have to save for it. I've made the mistake, MANY times, when i was starting out, to just do it cheaply...well that's not gonna cut it in this hobby because you always seem to need something better in the long run. Get cheap and have cheap. Doing it cheaply will result in boxes full of equipment that you don't need or no one wants (wet/dry sumps, PC lighting, cheap skimmers).

I've got the new AC Apex on order!!!

I'm SOOO jealous! LOL! When are they supposed to arrive?

I agree, the Apex wasn't available when i was in the market for a controller. if i could do it all again i would grab the new Apex hands down

Very pleased with my AC jr.

Controls:
1. Metal Halides
2. Actinics
3. Moonlights
4. 'Fuge Light
5. Heater
6. Fans
7. Turns off halides if temp hits 82

Not bad for $175 (used) & I can see my temp & ph at a glance.

Thanks for all of the info guys really appreciate it, one last question... I see a lot of you like the new apex, what separates it from the ACIII and the others?

The APEX is set up more like the Reef Keeper Elite. Where as its a modular system that can be expanded very easily. I think there is a video on you-tube, of a guy explaining it. It looks pretty cool. And its a good price.
