Aquarium Stand question...

So has anyone used a stand that is not quite wide enough for a tank and did you have problems with it?

I have a stand that fits my currently running 60 breeder tank that is 15.5 wide (front to back) but I have a chance to buy another tank at a great price that is 75 but is 18 wide. It will fit but over hang by a few inches.

I don't have a stand for 75 tank otherwise and neither does the seller.

Thanks!

Make a new one. They aren't that hard to make. A simple 3/4" plywood box is plenty for a 75g tank. If that is too hard, a 2X4 design is another method. Finish it however you want.

Check out the DIY section, there are a bunch of threads in there about building stands using several successful methods.

Add a "lip" to the back side with some additional wood to extend the top. Then you can flush up the front of the tank the the factory edge so it looks good.

Of all the things you can "cheat" on and get away with it...a stand that doesn't complete support the bottom of a tank is NOT something you want to mess with.

You want support at all four corners, all the way to the floor.

And FWIW...RocketEngineer is a stand guru...so even if you don't listen to me, listen to him. ;)

While I appreciate the vote of confidence, I've learned not to believe in "guruism". I'm an engineer, nothing more than a learned individual who understands the limits of materials and designs. Be afraid of folks who take themselves too seriously. We all make mistakes.
