I have a 55 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump. I have 2 Hydor korrilias 2, and 1 maxijet 1200. and a sump going at 600 GPH. Water perameters are all good. And I have 2 10,000k 65w CF and 2 65w Atinic CF. What do you guys think of this wishlist of animals. (Beware it is a doosy)

Well.......that's a bit much to say the least. but if you want anything to grow ,you are going to have to shorten your list. as far as fish go .Your 4 green chromis will dwindel down in numbers . a 55 is much to small to keep them in a group. ( I have issues in my 265) The Catalina gobies are more of a cold water fish .as far as inverts ,I'm not sure the clams would be happy maybe at the very top of the tank. Rose Bulb Anemone's like to travel and in a tank that crowded would take out a few of your other corals , they also get fairly large. Have I crushed your dreams enough? I'm sorry but I think you would be better off cutting that list in half... but that's just me. hope this helps. Ray

As triggerman said, the catalina gobies are coldwater fish and won't live very long in a tropical reef tank. The pseudochromis will become really aggressive. The sps corals on your list will not do well under those lights. I tried it out myself a couple years ago, and everything lived but looked horrible and didn't grow. Crocea clams are the most light demanding of the tridacna clams so they wouldn't do well either. I keep them toward the top of my reef under 250 watt halides in lumenbrights.

I know it is a bit much, but it is a wish list and it is ment to be eaten away at.
How Much lighting would you reccondmend so I could keep the clams near(middle) or close to the bottom? Also is a maxima clam less light dependent or more?

At the minimum you need 150 watt halides or about 6 t5's to keep either a maxima or crocea. 150 watt halides are powerful enough for long term success only if the clam is within about 8 inches from the surface. It might now grow much though. The less light demanding clams like derasa, squamosa, and gigas, will all outgrow your tank in no time at all. Basically you need more light, or can't really keep clams. This applies to sps too.

Bump your lighting up to 250 and go for the clams. Your corals will love you as well.

I'm a bit confused on the lighting, You say I need a total of 250 watts but when you add up 4 CF at 65w you get 260 watts total. Also I was looking at the Aqualight pro halide combination light with the 150 Metal Halides, would this be good.

Could I also still keep the Rose Bulb Anemone

With the lighting there is a huge and I mean huge difference in compacts and halides or t-5. The total light output is much greater than pc even though the wattage is the same. For example take a standard 100w incandescent bulb and a 100w floodlight the wAttage is the same but the total brightness and output is much more. In order to keep the bta, sps, and clams you will need better lights. I'm a t-5 fan myself

I'm not saying you can't have them, just be ready to replace them every now and then. from what I have read, and now beginning to see in my own 265 gallon tank. As they get larger they become more territorial. i started with 7 and now have 6 with 2 that i can see getting the "you're next notice" in the mail. i love these fish but in your list i would limit the chromis to one. but lkie i said in my first post that's just me. Ray

I would stay away from most sps corals with pc flourescent. I have had bad experiences with galaxea coral as it is so aggressive.

That help clear up a lot but Can I still keep the RBA and how big do they grow because I saw this one on Live Aquara (4.5") that i think is so cute also If you can help me eliminate some of the corals on my list that would be great.

I got my BTA about 6 months ago, and it has gone from about 3" in diameter to about 8" now. Under PC's a nem will most likely keep wandering around the tank trying to find more light. Atleast, that's what one of mine did when I tried to keep it under the same lights that you have.

For T5's I would say if you just want to keep basic corals 4x 54 watt bulbs in individual reflectors would be enough. If you want to keep sps and clams 6x 54 watt bulbs would be good. All of the softies/lps on your list would do fine under a 4x 54 watt T5 setup. The T5's would actually have less wattage than the PC's and put out a ton more light.

1 150w halide would not be enough to cover a 55 gallon tank. You would need 2 150s to light the entire 4 foot length. Keep in mind that you could only keep sps and clams at the very top of the tank under 150's.

i would not get the chromis, and you may want to consider some better lights for all those corals, and those catalinas can get pretty territorial over some parts of the sand bed and may fight

I wouldn't do the rbta under pcs they need a lot of light. As stated above they will constantly move around and they can get big. My lfs has 2 that are roughly the size of a basketball. They are in a 120 tank and they are huge.
