AquaSafe RO/DI system

Save your money and buy a much better one. Lots of RC sponsors sell much better units for only slightly more. You will not be happy with that one.

I just got one from The Filter Guys. Great value compared to POS eBay unit I was using. AZDesertRat is right you WON'T be happy with it. after the firts week and the water quality starts to drop off.

same here. just remove the last carbon filter. i have had mine for about a year and a half now. i have not even changed the DI resin and still getting 0 on the TDS meter. but i have pretty clean water to begin with.

ive had mine for a few years now and i am also happy with it. only recently i have noticed algae, i think its time for a new membrane. i have not had another, more expensive unit tho so i may be missing out on something. sorry, no TDS info, just a algae free tank for a year and a half.

Aquasafe rocks. Great RO/DI unit and great cust service. I have been using mine for 2 years without a single problem. Mine was like $115 shipped (75 gal per day model).

If all of you had a better unit to compare it to you would change your tune. If all you have ever know is that then you praise it, but once you try a Spectrapure, AWI Typhoon III, Purely Optima or others you would soon see the difference. There is no true comparison. The filters are a joke, who uses granular activated carbon in a reef quality RO/DI ? No one in their right mind. They are cheap for a reason.

It works, I'll be using other filters than the ones they sell now that it's time to change, but I never had problems with the unit. If they were that bad they wouldn't be selling a lot of units. It's been 8 months now and I'm getting a little of HA and cyano but it could be something else too.

When one has "0" TDS reading what else are you looking for?
I have had mine for two and half years. Still getting "0" TDS reading...

One can use the extra cash on frags!!!

Read the article on 0 TDS in the Spectrapure Sponsors forum.
If Aquasafe and Filter Direct among others really wanted to sell reef quality RO/DI systems they would use beter quality filters and a true DI system and charge $10 more as that is about all it would cost them. They don't give a diddly about you or your tanks and just are out to make a buck passing off low quality drinking water systems as a high quality filter which they are far from being.

I think is just like buying brand and generic, I use the $$ on more corals my self :) like mike says if TDS are 0 and the tank is doing good, does it matter?

Like I said read the article. If DI lasts half as long then it not a good value. My Tap is over 800, RO only is 7.7 and normal semiconductor grade resin lasts 150 gallons. If I had a crap membrane which produce poorer quality water then my DI would not have lasted that long. For every 2% increase in membrane efficiency you double the life of DI resin. Thats an important thing to remember. GE Water, Applied and the imports won't deliver the same quality as a 75 GPD Dow membrane. They will not last as long either with garbage prefilters and granular carbon in front of them either. Granular carbon has a capacity of about 200 gallons of chlorine at a 1 ppm residual. A 0.5 micron carbon block is rated at 20,000 gallons, quite a difference. Most prefilters no matter what micron rating are nominal rated and not absolute rated which makes a huge difference, again read on the Spectrapure forum what the differences are. Again the cheap RO/DI s are not what they claim to be.

Sorry I still don't get it, when my TDS are increasing I'll change the filter so far I have not seen it go up but I know it's time to change them, now my di still green, some brown parts but it doen't need change yet. I've gone throug a lot of water so far 20G water change every 2 to 3 weeks + 18G of top off water maybe 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. I got the unit around March actually it's 9 months. So far so good. We are way off of topic now I think. Just lets stop there.
