Aquascape critique

Always bring a towel
I'm getting close to setting my my 40 breeder. I pull my LR out of its curing can and started preliminary aquascaping. I was thinking of a ramp, but decided to go with a two stack. This is my first attempt at this, so could I receive some constructive criticism?

Ok so it's really up to you and what you like, there is no wrong way of setting up the scape in a reef. Personaly I think you need a lot more rock and my preference is to go for a 3D look. Meaning you view the scape form 3 sides and it looks good on each side having shape.

I don't know since it's really up to you, my suggestion would be get more rock and try to make a structure with it, like a cave or a shape you have in mind.

It is truly a preference when it comes to the scape. Two islands is a great approach because it allows for a better flow through the tank and minimal dead spots. I would maybe try to rotate the left base rock with the far left point pointing to the left, front corner. That natural cave like area will most likely become a fishes happy place. By angling the rock you will be able to more easily see it while in there. I like the varied heights in the two island formations. If you can, try to make more openings in the left structure while you are stacking them. You get two things from it. First, the fish have more to swim through and around and second, you move away from a solid formation.

The rock on the right structure, the left base rock- it looks like it has a nice natural flat surface that may give you a nice base to support the rest on that side. The other thing is if you rotate it down it may open you tunnel structure you have on that side a little more. So rotate counter clockwise one side (if that makes any sense what so ever).

As far as more rock, I have about as much rock to tank ratio as you and I love it. I don't like the overly stuffed rock tank. Again, personal preference, but any more rock in my actual DT I would hate it. I put more in my sump to make up for the rock.

i can't help but to share my preference as i really enjoyed aquascaping mine lol.
my preference would be to break up the largest rock at the bottom of the left pile and add some randomness to the placement of them.
also, i like the formations to be staggered so it has some depth to the entire tank.
keep in mind that at the end of the day it's about what pleases your eyes so enjoy!

+1, imo, i would try to follow what johnnyhildo said. adding depth with the lr would be more appealing. good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm still a week or two away from putting water in the tank, but this gives me a good starting point.

TAKE YUR TIME! easier to do dry and without corals. ive "adjusted" mine about 10 times before I was truly happy. make sure u are a 100% on the look
