Aquascaping for clams

Just want to say thanks to all those who spend thier valuable spare time here helping others in need. Good on ya! :D

Now for my question. I have a 75G tank, AG RR that has been running in various forms for a long time. It's fully stable and very well equipted for my intentions. Roughly 130lbs of liverock. Lately I have been falling hard for clams. For the past 2 months or so. I actually have 7 of them already. So far they are doing good, the first ones I bought already putting on a new row of scutes.

I plan to add more, but am running out of room. I intend to rescape the tank soon to better acomodate the clams. I am wondering if there is any prefered rock layout that works best for clams.

I can add more details if will help.

TIA!

Placing clams on rocks closer to the top would be cool especially if lighting is on the weak side. If not, it's cool too. I just place my clams on a good rock location. What I mean, that is in good visible range. As for ideal placement? I dunno, as long as it gets good light? I currently have 8 clams on the bottom and 2 on rocks. I have a 72G tank about 100 or so pounds of LR. May be a little more, I'm not sure. :-)

Here's a full tank pic I took in April. I've moved some clams around since then.

THanks for your reply. I see what you mean, your whole foreground is FULL of clams! My calms are a bit smaller on average then yours, so they don;t take up the room. I was just thinking of a good way to design the aquascape to house as many clams as possible, allowing for growth as well. Maybe in the sand is the easiest!

No problem.

Yeah, sand is the easiest. Once you place them on rocks, it'll fasten itself onto the rock pretty good. I wanted to move a clam off the rock, for now, it appears to be stuck on there for good.

Here's another pic. Fresh off my digi cam. My digi cam sucks when it comes to full tank shots, but it'll give you an idea what other 72G reef tanks with lots of clams can do. :-)

It looks lik eyou have a Sohal tang, Purple and yellow! your a tang fan huh?

I have 3 up in the rock already, but am running into problems with the Anthelia shading it. They are all stuck there good too. They seem happy enough though!

Yeah, I like Tangs. Well, I like plenty of other fishes, but I'll stay away from them since they're Angels and preditors. :-) I'm pushing it.. The Tang police will be all over me if they see this pic!

Sometimes my clams can get too close to the glass. If it does and depending how close they are, I can either push 'em away with the magnet (making sure it's just the shell I'm hitting) or manually push 'em away with a long stick (I don't want to get my hands wet just to move a clam an inch or two). Well, this method works so long as they don't fasten themselves to the bottom of the glass.
