Aquascaping questions

Hi guys,

Anyone who knows a bit about aquascaping will probably able to answer these simple questions.

When i purchase some live rock, if i just drill a central hole through some of them and place a thin pvc pipe through the middle, will that be able to work as pillars in my tank?

Will i need to use special adhesive to stick the rock together or can they just sit skewered on the pvc pipe?

By drilling them, will it weaken the rock or create cracks or anything?

Thanks

there are a lot of ways you can do the LR
unless you have a very large tank then it might not be necessary to go thru all that trouble w/ the LR

perhaps build a PVC stand
search RC for examples... or here is a link
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-10/totm/index.php

might scan down to see BOTH
how he drilled LR for pvc... and the method i am recom re building a 'rack' then stacking LR on top of this = also provides good hiding place for fish to swim around behind = also better flow around behind rocks etc etc

one can completely hide the rack if enuff LR to do so or just dont build the rack too big - build multiple racks for different areas around tank

someone else can give you better info re gluing drilling etc - its not my preferred method (and i dont have a huge tank either!)

good luck
regards

Here is a recent pic of my setup. 1/2 inch holes were drilled in the rock and 1/2 inch fiberglass rods are used to hold everything up. No sort of epoxy or glue were used as I don't think it is necessary and is probably counterproductive if you wish to change things around a bit.

Drilling LR is very simple. A masonry drill bit goes through it quite easily. I drilled the larger rocks with several holes in order to make the best use of the natural shape of the rock.
