I ordered a 560 watt metal halide fixture from these guys last Thursday... ever since then I have read only bad info about there products which sucks. I spent about $360 on the fixture total. I intended on putting it on my 120 gallon. Now I am considering sending it back and going a different route. so I have some questions...

1) Are they that bad/ dangerous
2) Should I keep it and keep the ballasts on top of my canopy so if it catches on fire then it will fall into the tank before burning my house down, hah?
3) what should I look out for?
4) whats some other alternatives for lighting for a good price if I send it back?

Thanks, Zach

for that price you could have got a tek T5 8lamp setup, that is what i a plan on going with. i like halides but i like the tek T5 sunlights better!

From the new units that I have seen they are built much better than the ones that Chad or I have owned and the wiring is 10 fold better.
As far as aquatraders the company, I have heard good and bad, but that is what your Amex or Visa is for!
The fixtures are very eye appealing and you wont find a used fixture for that price/with similar features, bulbs, moon lights, hanging kit, sleek looks etc...
If you have a canopy, why did you choose this fixture?

I would replace the capacitor if I were you-it will be $20 well spent! All in all I would buy that fixture again if I had a conventional tank.
The cord from the ballast is quite long so I would sit it on the side of the tank. If you need help replacing the capacitor JLMK.
Good luck and I am willing to bet you like it! BTW if you return it it will cost you about $150 in restocking and reshipping fees! Enjoy!

Where do you get the capacitor? I have a Odyssea fixture laying around since the other one I owned caught fire. I'd like to use the one I have on a frag tank.

CityLighting off of Vandaventer. It is an odd ball MF and they were the only ones that had them. They can also order them in if they are not in stock. good luck!

ahh yea I just read that they have a 25% restocking fee. so it looks like I am keeping them. So I have a canopy I am putting the hood in, is this bad? also where should I put the ballasts? and let me get this straight I need to replace the capacitor right off the bat huh, I heard that they are improved.... is this true

haha thanks geoxman for all the valuable info and taking time to help me figure this out.. I will call you on friday, hah as far as the beer goes I will have to wait a month Im only 20....

What does age have to do with drinking beer? If you don't have any beer just go to the local high school and ask one of the kids there. I'm sure they know where to get beer.
