Aqueon 125g Build

Getting ready to drill the tank for 1 1/2" bulkheads. Hole diameter is 2 3/8". 1 1/2" fittings. Internal overflow C2C.

The overflow is 72" x 4 3/4" x 5 1/4". Is 3/8" glass the right size and will silicone on the ends and against the back be enough to hold this or will I have to use some triangle stock to brace?

I think the bulklhead connector itself will be enough. Maybe spread out the bulkheads so they are roughly evenly spaced along the entire C2C. I would not silicone it since that would prevent it coming off. I might even use a couple of extra capped off bulkheads just for support.

Why not make it out of acrylic?

Wasn't planning to put a back on the box, just use the back of the aquarium. Don't know about acrylic - guess I could use that.

Got a 2 3/8" bit yesterday and drilled a couple of practice holes in some scrap 3/8" glass. Second one not too bad, though I'm still puzzling why it's off center.

First one was freehand and it did wander a bit, but not enough to show past the flange. Second one with a homemade jig.

Moment of truth at hand. Everything's ready to go. If that goes well I'm thinking about drilling 4 additional holes below the C2C overflow box for a future closed loop system.

Me too! But that drill bit was prohibitively expensive. Couldn't find a cheap one in that size. And this jig worked well in practice runs.

Water Test!

Drains are in. Using a big cooler as a temporary sump. Got the pump in yesterday and plumbed enough to fill the tank (fresh water) to check for leaks and see for the first time a Bean Animal in operation. Awesome!

Working on finding a 55g or so to use for a sump and getting some glass cut for the c2c.
