Aragonite!!!

I was heading to Homestead on Krome Ave. and randomly decided to stop into a Nursery to check the sand. I saw this huge pile of course sand and requested a sample. When I got home, poured the sand into a glass cup and then followed with some vinegar.....Fizzled like crazy!

Did I find Aragonite?

Oh ok it looked like there were some rocks in the picture. I'm guessing it's just a super close up picture of the sand

That's exactly what I was going to say. I work with aggregates everyday and was going to say it's crushed like rock or an LBR 40

Pardon the ignorance, Limestone would fizzle? Would limestone be ok to use in my aquarium?

Yes limestone would fizzle. I don't know if it's suitable. Looks to be too fine, would blow around and make a mess in the tank. Could also be the possibility of unwanted impurities. I would suggest looking around to see if LFS, Petsmart/Petco that have aragonite on sale. Find some plain old bagged dry sand, that live crud is way overpriced and IMO is just fancy marketing to pay more.

Thanks for the advice. Not going to risk it. Just gonna buy the same old Caribsea everyone else gets. I just thought it was cool that it fizzled. Lol

That aragonite that caribsea packages and sells used to come over on a barge into Ft. Pierce and you could get a pick up truck full for like 40 bucks.
