Arctica Chiller

I bought the 1/3 hp arctica chiller. I am controlling it with a pinpoint temp controller I also bought from you guys. There is a mag12 dedicated to it.(should i say i bought that from you guys too?) Anyway..to the question.

Right now I have the pump on full time running through the chiller even though the chiller only comes on when the controller turns it on. Can I change it so that both the pump and the chiller come on with the controller? I can't see that being a big deal but wanted to make sure.

With a hammerhead, mag9.5, and another external pump (all bought from you) any attempt to keep that chiller off as much as possible is a good thing.

And will take this post to also say that dealing with you guys is great. I am always surprised at how fast my orders come. My only complaint is that I have 3 t-shirts all exactly the same. I think you need to have multiple designs!!

thanks

Hello Coryherby,

Thank you for your post and your nice compliments, I personally do not receommend that you use a separate controller with this chiller because it does have an internal controller in it. It is usually prefered that the dedicated pump is left running due to the fact that the water in the chiller needs to be kept circulating to prevent stagnation of the water, which may damage the chiller and impede performance, it is also not good for a pump to be turn on and off constantly, this will shorten the life of the pump. If you concernd with heat issues I recommend that you add a few fans to circulate and remove any heat build up in your sump or canopy. thanks,

Does it hurt the chiller to run off the controller? I like having the double protection. The controller turns on the chiller at about 82 and it shuts off at about 80.5. I have the chiller set at about 78 so if the controller fails for some reason the chiller will only go that low. Also if the chiller fails it is still controlled by the controller. Do you see any damage being done however? It has been running like that since I set up the tank about 4 mo ago.
