Are 3 seaswirls too much for my 180?

I was wondering, would 3 sea swirls on my closed loop be too much for my 180 AGA? It's 72X24. I'm not sure how to plumb the closed loop best. I already have two sea swirls I was going to put on the back corners, but I was wondering if I should try using a third in the middle? I'd appreciate any advice/help. Thank you.

Gina

The three sea swirls are 3/4" versions. I will be running a reeflo dart. I would also be drilling some holes on the back wall for closed loop plumbing, using loc-line.

Sounds like a good plan to me with the 3. The more flow the better to eliminate any dead spots...good luck with your new setup....

If you are planning on drilling - have you considered the Oceans Motions units? They could be completely out of sight, and accomplish a current switching that is very natural, leaving less plumbing that you will have to see when enjoying the secenery of the aquarium....
Just a thought....

I use 2 1/2-inch SSes on my 52 corner: opposed to each other, they make a nice chaotic flow.

im running 2 - 1" ones on my 220 and i wish i had the cash to do 2 more when i set it up.. 3 should be perfect for a 180 plus youll eliminate the powerheads in the tank

I am running three 3/4 sea swirls on my 150 tall along with two tunzes. Two of them are setup in the two front corners of the tank and one is setup on the back wall in the center of the tank connected to my chiller plumbing. Great flow.

I thought of 3 so I could eliminate any powerheads. I wonder if that would work? Wondering if 2 would be better or 3? I'm just not sure. I want to make sure I can keep the sandbed clean. I had a vortech and a closed loop on my small system, but I still have dead spots. I want to eliminate that in this tank if possible.

hey i am building a 180 bow with 2 1" sea swirls. I wanted and ocean motion but i et nervous drilling glass, my tank was 2K. I'd say it is not about the amount of retun to and from the sump but th eflow in the tank. If you add another sea swirl you are increasing your sump volume, sump flow and energy. I'd say ad a vortex 2 is fine. I'd use two pumps so if one dies you still have water flow to your tank.
