Are 6-line Wrasses really that mean?

I've ordered one at my LFS. I'm hoping he wont pick on my orchid dottybacks or my saffron gobys (the smallest fish in my tank).

I think its the usual thing,it depends on the individual fish.

Quite the opposite in my tank. My orchid dottyback chases my sixline around every now and then; when they get 'too close for comfort'. Otherwise, they're both well behaved reef inhabitants.

Sixlines are great fish! Definaltey my personal fav!

happy reefin'

My sixline was very aggressive. It killed my shrimp. It would continually harass my ocellaris clownfish. And it would hold it own against a bicolor dottyback. It also consider almost of my tank it's territory.

I think my six-line is a born again clownfish. He hangs out with my two true-percs all day.

Yup! I have one too. Sixer is a great tank mate and part of the official welcome crew of our 90. Other tank mates include 2 percs, 1 coral beauty, 1 lawnmower blenny, and 1 powder blue tang. I got Sixer to defend my t. max clam.

they will kill any wrasse that looks like them if added after the 6-line. My friend bought a mystery wrasse and put it in with a 6-line (180 gallon tank) the 6-line wrasse killed the mystery in less then a day (with the lights OFF)

i wouldn't buy a 6-line.. I like fairy wrasses better! lol

My sixline is the oldest fish in my system and the only thing he ever bothered from day one was a yellow watchman goby. The goby finally moved in to the overflow and continued to live there for almost 2 years. Other than that he has been a model citizen and is very entertaining, he does laps in and out of the rock work and is very colorful.

okay... i'm a little stunned. I kept six-lines for years in many systems and NEVER saw any aggression. That said i've also suffered from "mystery" deaths during that time, hmmmm..... coincidence? I guess i bought into the "pretty and pleasant" doesn't kill concept. I love 6-lines and would consider them a top 5 must have for ANY system. Have I been duped?

I picked up the 6-line yesterday along with a copperband butterfly, juvie imperator and longnose hawk (great selection of fish). My old 50g is cleared out now is my QT tank. I drip acclimatised the fish and after two hours in they went to join the flame angel and powder blue. The 6-line is the smallest of the bunch and teh PBT was chasing him a bit. In the evening I found him behind a powerhead that was hanging on by one suction cup and I thought he was dead. He wasn't very lively but he was alive but I was very worried. I made some shapes out of 2" elbows and 45 degree elbows and put them in the tank with some other pipe so now there are plenty of places for the fish to hide. I also put an airstone in as I feel it helps fish.

This morning all fish are doing great. I see no agression and alot of the fish are eating already. Haven't seen the copperband eat yet and I'm mostly worried about him but he's really small so I'm hoping I can train him to eat flake and selcon soak BBS.
